My problem: I needed a new toaster that was a) reliable (known brand), b) durable, c) fast, d) with insulated sides e) capable of heating brioches/croissants and f) EASY TO CLEAN!
My previous one was all of this, except for the cleaning part... As a matter of fact, I often had the bad habit of putting brioches/filled croissants and even sandwiches inside it, which produced a terrible mess with internal fillings, that sometimes spilled all over the internal surfaces, making them impossible to clean...
Solution: after a lot of searches through the dozens of models listed on Amazon, I finally found this Bosch little gem, that has ALL of the qualities I listed above: it is very sturdy and nicely designed; is has solid plastic materials on the lateral white sides, that stay just barely warm and can be touched even during operation (but NEVER touch the grey sides, which are much hotter); it has a powerful 900 W heater inside, producing a perfect browning in less than a couple of minutes, on average; AND it offers a brilliant solution to heat croissants, brioches, sweets, miniature pizzas, tarts and all sorts of "messy" or oily foods, without making a mess that cannot be easily cleaned afterwards.
The toaster, in fact, is supplied with a brilliant, solid, nicely designed foldable metal rack, with platic insulated handles, that can be put on the toaster itself and removed in seconds (no complicated parts to hook or insert, you just need to fold outward the "legs" and place it on the toaster, which has specific grooves to align it; then, you can just put the food you want to heat on the little rack, and leave it there for as long as you want, without having any filling getting inside the toaster.
There is even a defrost function, that allows you to eat - for instance - bread slices from the fridge in very little time.
As if this was not enough, the wide bread openings are even auto-adjusting, since they contain an ingenious spring-loaded mechanism that "grabs" the slices, adapting to their thickness, and keeps them perfectly in the middle, to avoid uneven browning.
Finally, you can easily remove any crumbs with the built-in small metal drawer below the toaster, with no need to unscrew anything, of course.
Regarding the problem someone else mentioned about slices that are not browned uniformely all over their surfaces, I had no problem with Italian-sized sliced bread, and I suppose you might have such a problem only with very long slices, that might stay un-browned on their upper margin (which - by the way - might even not be that bad, if you want to get the slices with your bare hands...)
The only con I could find is the plastic lever used to turn on the toaster. It wobbles a little, and it looks a little flimsy and not as durable as the rest of the toaster; moreover, you need to push it down very firmly and keep it down for an instant to turn on the toaster, otherwise it will come easily up again without turning on the device.
Apart from that, I think the toaster is absolutely perfect, and being a Bosch it should be pretty durable, too, hopefully.
