Product Description

The PMF 180 E from Bosch is a true model of versatility: it cuts, saws and sands

The Bosch PMF 180 E All Rounder has a wide range of applications from cutting and sawing wood, plastic and metal to sanding, scraping and de-grouting. Even in the tightest of corners and edges it can be used thanks to its ergonomic design and handy accessories.

The PMF 180 E is easy to use because you have a secure grip on the tool at all times. Plus, the speed selector switch allows you to match the working speed to the material. The 180 watt motor provides high power for all applications. The more you work with it, the more you will appreciate its abilities: its handiness and power, and its manoeuvrability in tight spaces. You are sure to come up with countless ways of using the PMF 180 E.

Cutting in wood
You can make a variety of useful cuts with the plunge cut saw blades for wood: make cutouts in door frames, or in furniture to access wall outlets. Two wood cutting blades are available for use with the PMF 180—the 32x40mm, which comes standard, and the 20x30mm, which is sold separately.

The PMF 180 E can cut in areas that conventional machines can’t reach The PMF 180 E segment saw blade enables you to cut in difficult places Cutting in metal
Even metal can’t stop the PMF 180 E—with the metal saw blades, available to purchase separately, you can cut nails and pipes to the required length in no time. You can even use the metal saw blades to make plunge cuts into drywall for power sockets. You’ll be able to do this without great effort—but with the highest precision.

The BiM Segment saw blade enables you to get into border areas that conventional machines can’t reachBiM Segment Saw Blade for use with the PMF 180 E Cutting in tight spaces
Whether short or long cuts, whether in the middle or at the very edge: the PMF 180 E and the BiM Segment Saw Blade with depressed centre cuts architrave skirting that conventional machines only reach with extreme difficulty—or don’t reach at all. Parquet floors are flush in no time, protruding wood cut in a flash, and that new drainpipe will be cut to the right length quickly.

The BiM Segment Serrated Knife allows you to work flush to the work surface giving you precise angle cuts BiM Segment Serrated Knife allows you to work flush to the work surface giving you precise angle cuts Another cutting accessory available to purchase separately is the BiM Segment Serrated Knife. The offset design of the PMF 180 E allows you to work flush to the work surface, giving you precise angle cuts, so using the Segment Serrated Knife blade makes it easier to cut insulation materials than with a sharp knife. Plus, since it’s manufactured with BiM technology, the Segment Serrated Knife attachment will last cut after cut.

You can cut precisely in corners because of the All Rounder’s tapered body shape and the Groove Cutter’s narrow cutting tip. It can also cut common soft-insulation materials, like Flumroc.

Sawing made easy

The PMF 180 E also makes light work of the hardest materials. Simply clamp in the TC Riff Segment Saw Blade and the PMF 180 E is ready to start: for making an additional cable channel in the wall, for cutting your new wall tiles or for removing grout. Thanks to its power, the PMF 180 E ensures a safe and precise cut.

The PMF 180 E ensures perfect surfaces, on furniture and profiles, and even when working on the body of your car or motorbike, because its sanding attachment turns it into a powerful and low vibration detail sander. And because the PMF 180 E is extremely lightweight, you can achieve impressive results without having to apply a lot of feed pressure. What's more, clean-up is easy because the PMF 180 E has a port for connecting to a vacuum cleaner.

Scrape paint, underlay, and other rough household surfaces with the scraper blade The PMF’s scraping attachment lets you remove glue, mortar and paint coatings from surfaces The PMF 180 E is also designed for scraping, even in hard-to-reach areas. Available separately, the scraper blade can help you remove glue from surfaces after carpet removal, or mortar and concrete remnants—even remove paint from glass, or stubborn stickers.

Oscillation: the secret to the All Rounder’s success

The technical secret behind the versatility of the PMF 180 E is its oscillation principle: the accessories do not have a circular motion, but rather oscillate at an angle of ±1.4 degrees—enabling the most precise cutting, sanding and sawing.

Bosch 180 21 Nov 2010
The problem with this multi tool is it's only as good as it's spare parts. These wear out very quickly and are extremely expensive to replace.

Bosch seem to have made the decision to make more money from selling their spares, much like printer manufacturers do with cartridges.

I have owned the earlier version of this tool for many years. Whilst it only sands the velcro head has been used time and again and has really lasted well. Slight wear on the edges but you'd expect that. Unfortunately on my latest DIY job the sprindle drive to the head broke rendering the sanding head useless. Fair enough, I've had many years use out of it and tools wear out.

Having been so impressed I bought the Bosch 180e as a direct replacement. The tool body is the same, the sanding action is the same, so my sanding technique is therefore the same.

Having done one side of a 15ft room with the Bosch 180 sander head and bosch sand paper (details on skirting board and picture rails)I noticed that the sand paper was sliding around on the head. On closer inspection I found that the velcro had worn to the point that it could not grip the sand paper. Also the plastic body was breaking up where it had touched wooden surfaces in corners etc. Presumably as a manufacturer you would expect this degree of contact and therefore design for this in the product.

I can only refer back to my previous model which showed none of this wear after many years useage.

Maybe it's me but I expect sander heads to last longer than this. By my calculation I will need 4 replacement heads to fine sand one 15ft square room. At a cost of £10 per head that's 40 quid plus the sand paper.

This to me is unacceptable. So I voted with my feet and bought another brand and it's been brilliant.

As I only bought the unit in September I will now be chasing Bosch to sort this out. Hassle I frankly do not need.

Great product 25 Sep 2008
I have owned this tool for less than a week. I am not a professional, but would say I am a fairly competent DIYer. My reason for purchasing this tool was to cut solid wood flooring in front of a fireplace opening so that a hearth could be laid. I do not know anybody who owns this tool already, so took a bit of a gamble buying it, however it was very competitively price (69.95) at a local major DIY store here in Ireland and I just happened to spot it on my weekly recce of the tools area!

My first impressions are that this is an incredibly useful tool. The fact that the blade oscillates rather than rotates means that you can work in very tight spaces. It also does not suffer from the 'grab' that say an angle grinder would. It is also a tool that requires no practice to get a very proffessional result. I made a test cut using some old skirting, then just went for it cutting a 16" x 55" recess in a very expensive wood floor! The result was perfect with the tool cutting right up to the chimney breast with no problem at all. Even the wife was impressed. I have since found several other sanding and cutting uses for it as we are in the process of refurbishing a house. The tool is very easy to control and comes with several useful accessories plus a sturdy carry case.

Pros: No experience needed, very little dust, very thin and accurate cutting, faster sanding than a standard delta sander, incredibly light and easy to control, good price

Cons: Accessories seem a little difficult to find, does not fit in carry case when the plunge cutter is fitted (this really is nit picking)

Would I buy it again? Absolutely - I don't know what I did before I had it!

If you are a reasonably competent DIY (or maybe even a beginner) this is an ideal tool for the right job.
The one star review of spares is woefully out of date - just look anywhere and spares can be obtained.
The report on danger when retightening - does anyone REALLY mess aroung with the sharp end of an electric device without unplugging - madness.
So here goes...
I bought this to aid fixing laminate flooring around doors. I needed something easier than a handsaw to cut the architrave horizontally to allow the flooring to slide underneath. There is no doubt in my mind that it saved me a lot of time and my idea of buying this, rather than get someone else to come in, saved my a lot of money.
The two blades supplied are a very fine cut and I started cutting with the semi circular vibrating cutter (it does not revolve, just vibrates when cutting) and finished off, where needed, with the chisel-like attachment. Eventually they did blunt but are still usable after cutting out 2 doors both sides and another two on one side only. I also had to cut an awkward piece at the bottom of the stairs as well as undercutting the bottom stair around a bend slightly. The bottom stair has a curve and I didn't want to try and measure the curve so cut it approximatley and used the semi cicular tool to cut a curve made with a pencil line. I do have a jigsaw but this was fine for this particular job. I finished off in some parts using the tool vertically to cut my new flooring to a better matched shape. All in all 5 stars
BUT
I thought... how about trimming the bottom of a door where it scraped across my new floor, and also against the kitchen floor tiles. Neither was a major problem but has annoyed me for ages. I used a wall paper scraper flat on the floor where the door scraped, used the chisel attachment with the tool held verticall and the chisel attachement on top of the scraper (to protect the existing flooring slowly pulled the door over the top. This was an unbelievable success. As long as I went slowly, there was no splintereing as the tool attachments are a very fine cut.
Another 5 stars.

Any DIY person will know to let the tool do the work and not press too hard. This is the same here. use it gently and if necessary you can start with the tool and mix it with a handsaw for various jobs.
I have a circular saw for bigger jobs but this really is a beauty.
If the pictures don't show it properly, the bolt (that can be tightened OK) is not proud to the attachments, allowing the attachments to be used on a flat surface As I have tried to descibe when trimming the bottom of the door.

A very good piece of equipment !
