Safer drilling with an LED lighting system
The PMD 10 comes with an inbuilt LED 3 light system, and three sensors placed around the LED ring, so you will always know whether it's safe to drill:
- Green = no object is detected
- Amber = Drilling is not recommended by Bosch when metal and AC is detected. If the user can ensure by other information (such as building maps) that there is no object beneath the marking hole, the user can drill at their own risk
- Red = Object is detected = NOT SAFE TO DRILL

I have got a few funny readings from it. I discovered that a nearby drill was causing problems, even though it wasn't actively being used. However once I figured what was happening, it worked perfectly from that point on.
I particularly like the hole that lets you mark the spot to drill. Other products I've used in the past, I've been left wondering where exactly the sensor is looking.
One thing though; make sure you choose the correct mode. There's one mode that detects anything, which was giving me a lot of false warnings. I only needed to avoid pipes and wires. Again, once I figured out what was going wrong, it was a quick fix.
So, in that respect, not bad at all, and it made sure I've not drilled any holes into the wrong place.
But the mains electricity detection... if you just press it to the wall by itself, it reports that most of the wall is covering live cables.
You can make it behave better by resting your hand on the wall beside it, which reduces the false positives, but it's still a bit overzealous with regard to electricity.
Overall:
Detecting material is pretty good.
Detecting electrical cables is liable to label most of the wall as off-limits.
