Bosch PLL 1 P Laser Level Pen

Whether you’re putting up shelves, fitting curtain rails or just getting pictures straight on the wall, the Bosch PLL 1 P laser level pen makes the alignment of objects a straight forward and simple task. With a laser line projected out one end and a laser point out the other, you can even use the laser level pen for transferring heights from one wall to another. The PLL 1 P also has a high level of laser accuracy with a leniency of +/- 0,5 mm/m.

Operating-mode selection

The PLL 1 P has two operating modes to choose from; point operation and line operation. Line operation projects the 5 metre laser line which can be used for easy alignment either horizontally, vertically or even at an incline, such as aligning shelves or electrical installations, or hanging pictures parallel to the stairs.

The point operating-mode can be used to quickly and easily transfer exact heights from one point to another, even on different walls. This is made precise by using the horizontal and vertical bubble vials to align the PLL 1 P perfectly, made easier with the help of the fine adjustment knob on the wall holder.

Spirit level function

The Bosch PLL 1 P is a manual laser level and has two bubble vials which can be used to make sure that the tool is either horizontally or vertically level. This means that the PLL 1 P can also be used as a spirit level, increasing the amount of practical applications where the PLL 1 P can be used.

Versatile wall holder

The Bosch PLL 1 P comes with a wall holder which can be attached to by a magnetic connection. The holder itself can easily be attached to a wall using nails, pins, screws or adhesive tape. The flexible wall holder can also be used for sloped applications, such as hanging pictures parallel to the stairs. The PLL 1 P can be used with any tripod that has a ¼” thread to use the point operation to transfer heights.

Compact design

Compared to a traditional spirit level, the PLL 1 P is a lot more compact and a lot easier to handle to check that objects are level. The compact design also means that it is the ideal laser spirit level for your pocket.

The projection of the laser lines allow the user to mark a level line onto a surface or simply continue to project a laser line and then drill holes without the trouble of handling a traditional spirit level.

Digital Measuring Tools from Bosch

Digital measuring tools from Bosch impress with precision and extremely easy operation--whether when levelling objects, measuring distances or detecting all different kinds of materials and power cables.

This is a pretty compact device that can be used as a standard level (horizontal or vertical) or a laser device.

The laser has two options, it can project a dot or a line.
Both options are useful and allow easy marking of single or multiple points on a line.
The mount it comes with needs a tripod to make best use of, otherwise you'd need to find convenient wall fixing such as an existing screw.

It seems pretty well made as one would expect of Bosch, and I think this is a very useful addition to my toolkit.

The lack of a self levelling mechanism make this device very limited in its uses and it is no more useful than a torpedo spirit level. The tripod attachment is sturdy but the screw in the wall holder ranks up there with chocolate fireguards and teflon climbing shoes. Seriously, what were the Bosch tech guys smoking when they thought up that little design quirk? I've used it strapped onto a datum pole to get a sloping garden level and to mark off the header plate position relative to the footplate when building a stud wall.

The laser pointer came in very handy for pointing out poor quality areas of roofing and guttering on my house after a visit from the cowboy builders. It is just a shame that it doesn't have a laser capable of maiming the aforementioned cowboys to prevent them riding off over the horizon with my hard earned cash. Maybe with a few dilithium crystals, a reverse flux capacitor and my trusty soldering iron I could make the necessary modifications.......

I was fortunate enough to receive this free from Amazon to review.

I already have a Bosch Quigo laser level, which works well so I was interested to see how this smaller unit compares. I think they have their uses and for quick checks this unit works well - fits in a pocket and is fine for simple tasks. It comes with a tripod mount and is magnetic, so handy from that respect.

You cant easily mount it on a wall though without damaging the wall and it doesn't self level, which means a bit of fiddling. This limits it's use somewhat.

I think overall the best solution is having both - the Quigo can be a pain to set up, but it does level. The PLL is much more handy and portable, but it's only useful for some tasks and simple alignment.

If you're only going to get one device, I'd spend more money and get a Quigo or a PCL 10 over this device. They just offer more capability.

Before I purchased this, I had a B&D laser level that was auto levelling meaning you could hold it on the wall & the pendulum would do the rest. This has 2 small spirit levels that aren't very accurate - the bubble sticks. It does have a tripod mount which is handy for running a line around a room.

Good solid device.
It could do with a protective soft case though.

The provided wall bracket is absolutely useless, unless you want to drill a hole, rawlplug it and insert a screw just to use it to align Auntie Jeans shelves and then again to align the curtain poles.
basically you need two people, one with this device, the other with the pencil. Silly.

The top switch is red plastic, my advice is to take a marker pen and fill in the 'dot' and the 'line' marking - because its impossible to see which does what in real use. That would have cost Bosch 0.00002€ to do on the production line!

In use, the lasers are very bright, especially the point or dot.
The line is more useful, as you can align up a shelf with another or the ceiling as it spills onto the adjoining area.

However, make sure you use the spirit levels vary accurately first, its easy to trust the laser line - BUT it is not self levelling.

The whole level is actually too short to guarantee a perfect alignment - however if you bung it on top of a 2 or 4 foot spirit level - then the thing is much more usable.
Sadly levels are usual aluminium, so the magnets are just useless and rather pointless.

It is rather fun to draw pictures on the neighbours back wall at night though.
