Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This review is from: Bosch PKS16 Multi-Handy Mini Circular Saw for Precise Straight Cuts in Many Materials (DIY & Tools)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This handy little baby is just the thing for light domestic carpentry, small boat repair, `Changing Rooms' style revamps, hobby projects, furniture fabrication, DIY kitchen/bathroom unit work, wardrobe, drawer and shelf reorganisation. Any job that doesn't need a more traditional circular saw with a six-inch blade. Use it in conjunction with a router to form a channel. Tidily put together, an asset to a jobbing carpenter's tool kit, this looks to be a really solid and sensible tool, with. As always with Bosch, a comfortable feel in the hand.

Weighing two and a quarter kilos, or nearly five pounds avoirdupois, it was heavy enough for me to control (63 year old lady with arthritic paws) but usefully smaller and lighter than an a non `mini' circular saw. All neatly presented in a sturdy green, recognisably branded, Bosch Box/carry case, which handled with some care, should last as long as the tool inside. There is room in the container for any extra blades you might choose to add to the collection of three provided. The sparkly diamond one which comes with the saw is for ceramic tiles, the other two of differing sizes for woodwork, MDF, plastic. There is an excellent safety device, a dead man's handle as it were, which means you cannot reveal the blade unless you have unlocked it by holding the trigger continually to keep the motor going. You need a bit of strength to push the lock forwards. Adjustment for the depth of cut is easy although as it is a mini version there is limited depth for cutting, around 12 - 16 mm.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Having recently purchased and reviewed the Worx Handycut Mini Circular Saw I had great hopes and expectations for this Bosch tool, but sadly I'm a little disappointed. The reason being that it's maximum depth of cut (16mm) is not suitable for the main use I have, which is for cutting chipboard/ply floorboard access ports or sheet materials. Unfortunately commonly laid flooring grade sheets are a minimum of 18mm upto 21mm so this tool cannot be used, which is funny as most of the advert pictures for the tool show it being used on chipboard and what looks like 18mm wooden flooring! It is however fine for sheet materials 16mm or less with the wood blade supplied and used earlier it flew through some 6mm ply I needed to overboard a chipboard floor before tiling.

Pros
Can be used by left or right handers due to the central start button and safety lock release on the central handle
The handle is ergonomically designed and slim -very similar to a jigsaw machine
Vacuum attachment that does actually fit my Henry vac
A set of three blades 2 wood (standard and fine cut) and one ceramic for tiles
The fold out front guide works quite well but I'd prefer a laser guide at this price
Plunge cuts can be done easier than the Worx Handy cut, line up the rear mark on the base plate (there are three) and away you go.NB if you use the middle one you will overcut the start/end-point of your line due to the circular shape of the blade.

I bought this less than a month ago at about the same time as I the dremmel one This is still going strong, the Dremmel's motor burnt out.
It cut well although some of the blades are a bit rough if You have a lot of melamine board to cut. I use a Bosch multi-tool for that but I expect there are plenty of finer blades about, (I'll check out Saxton's to see if they have cheaper own brand blades).
I've only used it on chipdboard & pine but it handled them very well. The depth is adjustable, There is a vacuum cleaner attachment.
The only reason I've given it 4 stars is because it's a bit noisier than my other powertools

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I received this through the vine programme. It's a really nicely packaged and put-together tool, but I'm not entirely sure exactly how useful it will be as an addition to most peoples' tool shed. I can't help but feel it's a circular saw designed for people that are too scared to purchase a real circular saw!

I think is would be a really useful bit of kit if all you ever wanted to cut was very thin wood, say perhaps if you had a load of laminate flooring to lay. I pressed the circular saw into action to cut wood for a shelf in an alcove and making a rack of coat hooks. The board that the coat hooks are mounted on is just general 'skirting board' type pine. The saw couldn't even cut through this with one pass on its deepest setting. It was necessary to cut from one side, flip it over and try to line up a second cut in the same place. I ended up resorting to using a jigsaw!

If cutting thin wood, the saw is very easy to set up and use, and it cuts a nice straight line. I also like the idea that you can swap the cutting blade for a tile cutter. I think it could probably work very well for this but haven't tried it!

The instruction book suggests that you can use this saw to make a 'plunge cut' into the middle of a bit of wood rather than cutting in from the edge. It does say that he saw could kick back, but even when prepared for it, it was very severe and I wouldn't recommend it unless absolutely necessary.

There is an attachment to connect a Hoover pipe to suck away the sawdust, which was easy to fit, but I didn't actually try using it. The saw comes in a really nice, sturdy carry case, with room for spare blades (the saw comes with 2 blades and a tile cutter).
