Product Description

Product Description

The Bosch Rotak 37 LI Ergoflex - A powerful electric rotary lawnmower with the convenience of cordless technology

The Rotak 37 LI Ergoflex is packed full of incredible features to ensure you get a pristine lawn every time. The mower comes with a powerful 36 volt/2.6Ah Lithium-Ion battery. Featuring grass combs, this lawnmower is able to easily cut up to or over the edge of your lawn giving a more thorough cut. It has a full 37 cm cutting width, ideal for medium sized lawns and offers a range of adjustable cutting heights, from 20 to 70 mm.

Bosch Battery

Cordless Freedom--Powered by Bosch Lithium-ion Technology

Being cordless removes the hassle of untangling the cable, damaging flower beds and the risk of cutting the cable whilst mowing. The Bosch Rotak 37 LI Ergoflex can be used anywhere away from a power source and unlike petrol mowers, are free of smell and excessive noise.

The performance of the lithium-ion battery will vary according to the conditions of the grass. If it’s too wet, too long or covers a very large area, the running time of the battery will be affected, but in ideal conditions where the grass is short, fine and dry, running times could be up to 30 minutes. The Rotak 37 LI Ergoflex’s 36V/2.6Ah Lithium-ion battery should give 500-700 cycles of life, which should be anywhere between 5 to 10 years of regular usage. With a full charge taking up to 60 minutes and an 80% charge taking 30 minutes, you're never to far from a pristine lawn.

Efficient Energy Management (EEM)

EEM increases the run time of the Rotak 37 LI Ergoflex by 10%-20%. The EEM has two functions. Firstly, intelligent cutting electronics maintain the blade rotation at an optimum constant speed, this smoothes out the ‘load’ requirement and saves energy. Secondly, the kinetic energy recovery system harnesses the energy generated by the blade run-down and feeds it back into the mower battery as soon as the motor has been switched off.

Rotak Edge Trimming System
Grass combs--mow right up to the edge

With inset front wheels and grass combs, the Rotak 37 LI Ergoflex can cut grass growing close to or over the edge of the lawn. This ensures that no strips of uncut grass are left behind even when cutting around flower beds, walls or paths.

Ergoflex System--for practical, comfortable gardening

The sleek Bosch Ergoflex design is based around the comfort and simplicity of computer console handsets, ensuring support and ease of movement. The mower can be operated left, right, one or two handed, horizontally or vertically, giving you 8 different grip positions to control the mower. With an adjustable working height and multi-position handle, optimal power transfer is achieved. Adjusting the mower to your body you can improve posture and reduce muscle strain. Bosch Ergoflex Lawnmowers are the first ever garden products to achieve Ergonomic Certification.

Rotak Height Adjustment
Height of cut adjustment

Decide from 10 different height of cut positions ranging between 20 – 70 mm. With the height being adjusted with a single handle, you can easily set the mower to the height you require.

Rotak Roller
Lightweight and easy to carry and store
Made in UK

Lightweight at only 13kg, and with its integrated carry handle, the Rotak 37 LI Ergoflex is easy to carry and store.

Large grassbox--less emptying

With a large 40 Litre grassbox, you won’t have to spend as much time emptying grass cuttings - so more time can be spent gardening.

Having tried petrol, electric, hand push mowers and found all of them lacking in some respect;

Hand - cant really tackle long damp grass at all well but great when just giving a minor trim
Electric - scary when you get so close to the trailing cable so often and are also limited in reach
Petrol - servicing costs, noise, weight

I thought I would now try what appears to be one of the dearest options - a cordless battery mower

It is absolutely outstanding and ticks ALL the boxes and overcomes ALL the problems mentioned above;
Steams through long grass with ease, no cables to worry about cutting or limiting your reach, no servicing costs, very little noise(much quieter than electric and petrol mowers, and very lightweight too.

It has a high power battery that only takes an hour to charge or half an hour to get it to 80% and it did my front and back medium sized gardens in just one charge with plenty of battery power still to spare.

All in all, it is THE lawnmower in my opinion and the cut is superb too - just wish I took the plunge years ago and I urge you to get it if you are umming and aaahhing.

Despite their high power I can't be doing with motor mowers, with that engine maintenance and use of petrol. So I'm committed to electric mowers. But dragging the cord around the garden is a bore. When Bosch released these battery powered mowers I got one in March 2008, understanding that, as with all cordless equipment, the power and usage time would be limited by the battery capacity. Well, six seasons on and I'm still delighted with this Rotak 37Li. It's great to have the freedom of not having a cable, especially on a lawn with lots of narrow awkward bits around planting. And the battery capacity is enough for my lawns, about 100m2 front, back and side. If, very rarely, the job is draining because the grass is very long, and the battery empties before the end, then I just put it on charge and do something else for 10 minutes or so until it has enough juice to finish. After six seasons at say 20 uses per season that's 120 full charges, and the battery capacity is exactly as it was when new. It's nice and light to use, it's very robust, the grass catcher holds lots.

What's not to like? Well mine recently started cutting out (motor stops after a minute or so). Suspecting overheating, I've just cleaned it thoroughly. Four screws secure the battery holder and grass flap and four (?) screws secure the green moulding to the black base. I had it all apart in a few minutes. It was full of grass. The mechanism cools the motor by blowing air from below upwards. Eventually it's just all going to clog up. But I got it all cleaned with stick and a vacuum cleaner and reassembled it. Easy job. But it still cuts out.. end of life?

Bought this lawnmower 3 years ago, believing Bosch to be synonymous with quality and durability. The lawnmower itself is very good. More powerful than its small size would suggest, it copes with much larger lawns than it is designed for although you do need to recharge it after 30 minutes. It even copes with very long grass and weeds without a problem.

The big downside is the battery charger which failed after 2 years. The charger supplied is a Bosch AL3640CV 36V Li-Ion and costs between £62 and £78 to replace, depending on where you buy. The product itself is covered by 2 years warranty from Bosch, but batteries and chargers are only covered for 12 months. Bosch are clearly aware that there is a problem. There are streams of complaints about Bosch's lack of after-care in the reviews of the chargers on Amazon's website. They appear to be designed to fail shortly after the warranty runs out.

Given the high cost of the lawnmower and the high cost of replacement chargers, I really cannot recommend this product until Bosch stop supplying sub-standard chargers with what is otherwise a very good lawnmower.

If you are like me, you might be asking certain questions, ie should I pay this much for a mower?, is it the right mower for me? etc. Having read all the reviews, it certainly would appear that a great many people had graded this with 4/5 stars, so allowing for the obvious few who were for one reason or another not enamoured, I felt that maybe this was the route to go.

Having had electric mowers previously, the cables were a constant nuisance, and my last mower (Atco Windsor 14S), whilst being electric, was both heavy 28kg, and didn't give a great cut. Possibilities to switch to a petrol mower never really appealed, based on the excessive weight of the mower, and also not being a very technical person, thought about future repairs, aswell as the on going need for petrol and oil purchases etc.

For those of you like me (in terms of mindset), let me give you my honest opinion to date of this mower and my ultimate 4 star rating. It may help you to make your mind up, bearing in mind my lack of technical nous, and just a desire for a neatly close cut lawn with a stripe finish.

Negatives :
1. The assembly instructions, for someone like me (not the most technical) were descriptive, but really I found it difficult to assemble. Someone with more technical know how would have done the job in less than 20 minutes. For me, it was more like Laurel and Hardy at times, and took over 1 hour!!! The actual photos of this mower include a video (2 minutes duration), of how to use this mower, Why, oh why, could there not be a video of the same duration to assist with assembly!!!!!!!
2. Battery life is only 30 minutes, before you need a recharge.
