I bought this kettle about 3 weeks ago and I have to say I read some of the reviews here and I was a bit sceptical. However, after using it, here's what I think.
The kettle is a standard black colour with a brushed aluminium ring around the top of the kettle and has a soft touch handle. To me it gives it a little bit of a classy image. The base is black with three buttons on the front. Power on/off, temperature control(rocker switch) and keep warm.
You can fill the kettle either through the spout where there is a lime scale filter or through the top of the kettle. The lid of the kettle has a large push button in the centre. Just push it and the lid opens quickly.
The kettle is not particularly fast to boil 1.5 litres of water. I timed it at about 3 minutes and 22 seconds, so it won't set pulses racing. However, this was at the pre set temperature of 100 degrees. But it is adequate for anybody really.
Contrary to some of the poor reviews here, there is no in built lid timer. You can open the lid any time you like. You don't have to wait 5 minutes. press the button and the lid opens. It's a very simple mechanism.
With regard to the keep warm facility. This will only keep the water warm for 30 minutes, presumably to save your electricity bill. What you do is this, you press the on button and then press the keep warm button. All the lights are lit. Once the kettle comes to boil, the water will stay hot for 30 minutes after which the kettle switches off. If you take the kettle off the stand during the keep warm period, the kettle will switch off as well as it thinks you have finished with the keep warm facility. If you want to reinstate keep warm, just turn the kettle on and then press the keep warm again. Simple.
One reviewer said that water collects in the base of the kettle stand. I haven't found this to be the case at all. If you overfill any kettle and it boils, water will spurt out of the spout and roll down the kettle into the base. I haven't found any water except for a couple of drops. I might also add, that the manual, if anyone has read it, says quite specifically that some water may collect in the base, but this is normal and does not indicate a leak.
So far the kettle has been reliable. I like the keep warm facility and the looks. The lid opens and closes fine (no rocket science built in) and seems quite sturdy (though time will tell). Overall a really good kettle and I highly recommend it.
