Gangster movie with a French twist,
By
This review is from: Borsalino [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is one of the all-time fun French gangster films. I saw it in a cinema in Paris, but just try to find the DVD or videotape! I guess they're trying to increase its rarity value by foisting a much inferior film, Borsalino & Company, on Delon and Belmondo fans. Well, this is the genuine article, more Marseille tnan the real city, perhaps 50 years or so ago, so just enjoy the great dialogue and scenarios IF YOU EVER MANAGE TO GET YOUR HANDS ON THIS TAPE OR (BETTER) dvd.

fine French felony,

I got hold of this movie for a friend who had been yearning to get a copy of it for years. She loved re-visiting it after so long, and I very much enjoyed it for the first time. From the opening scenes of the two protagonists 'dealing with each other' over the lovely Lila, they form a great friendship and union in sorting out who needs to 'look after' Marseille. While not discarding entirely the realities of the times they found themselves in, this is also a colourful and enjoyable 'romp', combining light-hearted rivalries with the realities of dealing with the seamier and less trustworthy underworld. Very ambitious, romantic, scoundrels, chez Butch and Sundance.
