Product Description

CD Description

Marilyn Manson continues to upend the mainstream with each new release, and his upcoming album Born Villain is about to take that a bit further release on 30 April 2012. "The new record put simply has the ambition and determination of how I started making music in the first place," Manson says. "It sounds like the first record in that it's not afraid to do anything. I had to remove myself from my lifestyle and start fresh. "It doesn't really sound like any of my old records," Manson says in an upcoming Revolver magazine cover story. "In fact it sort of sounds like what I listened to before I made records Killing Joke, Joy Division, Revolting Cocks, Bauhaus, Birthday Party...It's very rhythm-driven. I think this will probably be the grandest concept record of all." The tumultuous relationship Marilyn Manson has cultivated with the public through his genre-defying music and anti-status quo message of thinking for oneself has resulted in sold-out tours, protests, legal battles, adoration, hate, more than 50 million records sales, award-winning distilled spirits, several Grammy nominations and, most importantly, a long list of some of the most enduring and powerful singles ever, such as Lunchbox, Get Your Gunn Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) The Beautiful People, Antichrist Superstar, Tourniquet, The Dope Show, I Don t Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me), The Fight Song, (m)Obscene Heart-Shaped Glasses, Coma White and If I Was Your Vampire. Born Villain will be released on Cooking Vinyl and Manson's own label Hell, Etc. Marilyn Manson has had astounding success across the globe including three albums being certified platinum and three more certified gold in the USA, in addition to three top ten albums and two number-one albums (Mechanical Animals and The Golden Age of Grotesque).

4.0 out of 5 stars Marilyn Manson - Born Villain 30 April 2012
By Gentlegiantprog TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
2012's Born Villain is the eighth full-length studio album by Marilyn Manson. As with the previous two albums it was self-produced, mixed by Sean Beavan and no living drummer is fully credited throughout. The line-up features Manson, Vrenna & Ramirez like the previous album, only now with Fred Sablan on bass. Interestingly though, Vrenna left the band before the album's release.

For many fans, the band's golden period is considered to be The Triptych (Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals & Holywood), a trilogy of three interlinked concept albums that were released at the height of Manson's fame, critical acclaim, cultural relevance and commercial success. Ever since then; after a decade of line-up instability, notably poor live performances and albums that didn't meet many fan's expectations, the band's stock has diminished considerably in the eyes of the media and a large portion of the fanbase.

I wouldn't go so far as to call this new record a triumphant comeback, but it is undeniably strong and consistent, and arguably the best thing he has released in years. I'd urge you to forget any pretentious interviews or music videos associated with it and give the music a fair and honest chance.

If you have liked the last three Manson albums, then Born Villain is certainly worth trying out. The album has some seriously enjoyable songs that would fit well into a live set or compilation album, and isn't overly full of ballads or slow tracks that don't go anywhere. It isn't just a dull dirge... It is louder, more bombastic and more confident than any of the last few records.

Stylistically, It seems that Manson is going for a mix between trying new things and delving into his back catalogue as well. The opening track `Hey, Cruel World...

4.0 out of 5 stars MARILYN MANSON REVITALISED WITH "BORN VILLAIN" 30 April 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Marilyn Manson return with album number eight "Born Villain" and I got to admit at first I wasn't that excited about another Manson release after his recent lacklustre releases that failed to capture my attention for too long, that all changed however when I heard lead single "No Reflection" which was a heavy slab of rock full of big beats and crunching guitars and a killer chorus. It was like a big slap in the face saying "welcome back". It's liked Manson has rolled back the years and seems to be revitalised again. It already sounds like his best work since 1998's classic "Mechanical Animals".

Opening track "Hey, Cruel World..." starts off gentle enough with an intro thats like "Diary of the Dope Hats" before unleashing a barrage of drums and guitars and a shrieking Manson, it also features a great bass line that drives that song throughout. "Overneath The Path Of Misery" Manson sounds like a song that wouldn't have been out of place on "Antichrist Superstar" and again features some great bass lines (which are a big feature of the album) with big drums and a great sounding synth. There's "Pistol Whipped" that shuffles along with a big glam sound, it really suits the song which has a big groove to it and it is one of the stand out songs on the album.

"The Flowers Of Evil" has a hint of Sisters Of Mercy about it while "Children of Cain" stars off with a big looped beat that captures Manson at his nineties best. "Murders Are Getting Prettier Every Day" starts off at a very fast paced and then gets even faster as the song goes on, and features a big break down that gives away to a crazy guitar solo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated album 22 Jun 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This album only received average reviews in the main musical press such as Q, NME ,Kerrang. Which for these magazines is not a bad thing but to me those marks of 3/5 are not enough . This album is a return to form and although not quite at the level of Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals it is a very fine album . The stand out tracks are No Reflection, The Gardener, Born Villain, Breaking The Same Old Ground and the best track for me on the album is Slo-Mo-Tion. The album concludes with a very fine cover version of You're So Vain. I am not usually a fan of cover versions but Mr Manson has covered this really well and I think even Carly Simon would approve.
The album has a very good mid section in the Songs The Flowers of Evil and Children of Cain. There are no album fillers to me. If you have never bought a MM album because of who he is then to me you are missing out. This would be a good album for you to start in his collection especially if you like Heavy Rock / Metal Music. Throughout the songs swing from very melodic one moment then to raging Metal sound the next , which I for one love. Buy this album and you will not be disappointed .

By BAZ316
Format:Audio CD
In short there's a good reason so many prasie this cd,it's a good one.
A lot rockier than the past recent albums and tracks such as PISTOL WHIPPED will get you singing along in no time.
Ending with a bonus of a brilliant cover of YOU'RE SO VAIN,this is something i won't tire of playing for some time,so i'll stop going on about it and let you decide for yourselves, seriously though, believe the hype.
