Book Description

25 Oct 2012
"Born This Way" shares and celebrates all kinds of growing up LBGTQ stories through personal memories and childhood photographs. With more than 100 profiles, "Born This Way" is a delightful celebration of growing up gay. Based on the hugely popular (3 million views and counting since its launch in January 2011) blog of the same name, this hip, gifty little hardcover belongs in the homes of America and the world. It's a book for members of the LBGTQ community, as well as friends, family, and anyone who has followed the tragic stories of gay teen suicides. It will tap into the same vein as Dan Savage's "It Gets Better Project", giving people everywhere the courage to say Yes, I'm gay. And I was born this way. I've known it since I was very young, and this is my story.

Review

Overall the book is fantastically presented with truly inspirational stories that will leave you with a sense of admiration for the strengh and bravery of the contributors. The book will make a ideal gift for any of your gay friends or parents of children or young people who are gay. --Allaboutme dot com, October, 2012......Much like the It Gets Better project, BORN THIS WAY lends to that example, not only within the GLBTX community, but far far beyond it as well. For anyone who isn't gay, I still think books like BORN THIS WAY are extremely important. I hope it inspires understanding, acceptance, and support of the GLBTX youth around us who might be looking for a little kindness. Together, let's erase the hate, and make the world a better place. I recently saw an interview with the mother of Matthew Shepard, in which she said that parents of gay teens are often not surprised when their children come out. If you think, or know, your son or daughter is gay, have this book on the shelf for them. It may bring great comfort to them, not only in reading it, but as another small gesture of acceptance they need from you. --Alisons bookmarks, October, 201.....Based on the Born This Way blog, the anthology reveals funny and heartbreaking stories of those growing up LGBTQ, accompanied by childhood photographs. --Los Angeles magazine, October, 2012.....Each one of the stories included in the book comes with a cute little picture of the teller at that age. Covering every time period from the forties up until the present day, the stories cover a variety of ages, with each one being a unique insight into how that person grew up. The book, collated by Paul Vitagliano, is due to go on sale at the beginning of October, with writers including drag superstar Jackie Beats, singer Sia, make-up artist Billy B, Erasure lead vocalist Andy Bell, and legendary gossiper Perez Hilton. These are all mixed in with stories of the LGBTQ community from all over the world. We can t wait for the opportunity to read just how it conveys the message, Yes, I m gay. And I was born this way. I ve know it since I was very young and this is my story . -- --SoSoGay, October, 2012

Aesthetically it s a great little book: a regular sized coffee table book to give to your friends or family to show your support or just because you love them for being who they are. Even as someone who isn t gay I found great inspiration reading stories from people who aren t afraid to just be themselves no matter what --Bookishbelle, October, 2012

Based on the Born This Way blog, the anthology reveals funny and heartbreaking stories of those growing up LGBTQ, accompanied by childhood photographs. --Los Angeles magazine, October, 2012...is a charming collection of memories of LGBTQ childhoods in the USA, spanning 1943-1998. With a lovely, retro design and vintage photos BTW is affirming, sweet and humorous; a very personal piece of queer history. Every library should have a copy. -- --DIVA, November, 2012

A super cute collection of Stateside coming of age stories, the key to this books charm is the analouge photography. Camp kids are snapped for school pictures, favourite fancy dress outfits and there's lots of baton twirling. Ooh, there ain't no other way. --Gay Times, November, 2012

Based on the Born This Way blog, the anthology reveals funny and heartbreaking stories of those growing up LGBTQ, accompanied by childhood photographs. --Los Angeles magazine, October, 2012

This book is totally adorable with a really stylish layout. The pictures and accompanying stories range from funny to kitsch to poignant. They all have one thing in common and that's that they're inspirational. It's an amazing concept and a great book.

I came across this book whilst browsing on amazon a feww weeks back. the book arrived today and ive read it from cover to cover already and even flicked back through it again. What charming, funny, sad, inspirational, encouraging, uplifting and powerful advice this book had. Such wonderful short tales of life growing up in a very difficult world when being gay.
I certainly recomend this book to those people still worried about telling friends and family about your sexulaity. Its also a good read for anyone, including parents that would like some re-assurance or guidence on how to help their family. Thank you Pual Vitagliano for creating this wonderful book.

If only I'd had a book like this to turn to when I was growing up. I imagine many have said just that when they've read this wonderful book. It only took me a day to read and I loved every moment of it. I could even see myself in many of the stories!!!

We need more like this Paul!!
