I think the previous reviewer did this book a disfavour in giving it only two stars. I bought this book as a result of that review and am pleased that I did.

The first thing to bear in mind is that the League books are completely different from the Dark Hunter series to the point that it could be a different author.

Yes, this book starts out sounding like a 'boy gets girl' sappy romance. Then Darling Cruel finds out just how much some members of the Resistance hate his family. The physical and emotional scars and how he has to deal with the fallout make this book. There is more detail about his friendship with Nykerian. In particular I like why he pretended to be homosexual and why he maintained the pretence no matter the cost to himself. In any case, if you read the collection of short stories about League characters, you would know that his homosexuality was not what it appeared. I don't think the author was afraid of having aa homosexual character because she contrasts Darling pretending to be homosexual with his best friend Maris, who pretended to be heterosexual for the sake of his family. Ms Kenyon confronts the prejudice facing the two characters very well.

It is clear that Darling had his reasons, from when he was a young boy being raised as a future ruler. I liked in particular his response to the complaint from a member of his government about the League laws and how he has managed to memorize them, because that is what he has to do to lead his people. The interaction with the League at the end of the story poses some interesting potential for future books in the series.

If you want a light read, this is not the book for you. If you want emotion and a story that might make you cry, buy this book. You won't be disappointed.

When I first started reading this book, I was a little disappointed - but only because Darling and Zarya are together at the beginning. I thought to myself, 'Well, how are the other four hundred pages going to go if they're already sweet on each other?' How wrong I was! I won't give anything away, but the plot is incredibly twisty and turn-y. Trust me, don't think this is your average love story.

This story still had me thinking about it today, and I finished it yesterday. It is full of pain, full of love, and full of friendship - the kind that has you tearing up every fifty pages or so. I really felt for Darling and Zarya, and especially Maris. It has the same impact upon your soul as Acheron, if you've read that.

The only criticism I have - and it made no difference to my enjoyment of the book - was that it sometimes felt like anecdote on top of anecdote. Stories of Darling's suffering and Maris' are very thick in the pages, and sometimes felt like it was a lot of backstory instead of action. But, like I said, it didn't detract from the power and gorgeousness of the story for me.

In my opinion, it is a story with depth, as opposed to a shallow one track romance, like I thought it would be in the beginning. I do not regret reading it at all, and would happily sacrifice the five/six hours I spent lost to it. (I'm a fast reader; might take others a little longer, haha!)I can hardly wait for the next 'Born' book.

I love Sherrlyn Kenyon big fan of the Dark Hunters and Nick chronicals! The League series is non stop action and the men break your heart! this was no exception I read it and cringed when you know what Darlings been through, cried when he thinks he's been betrayed, lost people he loves and when at last gets a hea! this was a great book I totaly get why he said he was gay, I dont think Sherrlyn Kenyon is worried about writing about gay couples as Darlings best friend is gay (love him)
I cant wait for book 6 Born in Fury read the books in order to get the most from them but read them! they take you through every emotion but totaly worth the sleepness night to get to the end!
