Amazon.co.uk Review

Classic Kung Fu fare from the Hong Kong school directed by the old master himself, Joseph Kuo, Born Invincible has only been available in an extremely crackly print for years. Fortunately this version has been cleaned up, though lovers of Oriental kitsch will be glad to hear that the risible, excruciating dubbing remains intact. The plot revolves around the evil Ching Ying (Carter Wong), who has trained since the age of three in the near-impossible art of Tai Chi Kung Fu. His body has become tantamount to a single, deadly muscle, the 108 pressure points of human vulnerability reduced to just one--his sole weakness. His training has also left him with whitened hair and a voice that, dubbed, is a little too close to Harry Enfield's Grayson character from the Mr Cholmondley-Warner sketches in high excitement. Having killed two elders of the Lei Ping school in martial combat over an old score, it falls to the students of that establishment to avenge their masters, through three rigorous years of training. The awesome, though often-comical fight scenes (which in no way resemble Tai Chi) dominate the movie, involving as they do protracted acrobatic manoeuvres, few of which seem to involve actual contact with the human body. Still, lovers of The Matrix might care to revisit this, in order to check out how those moves were first committed to celluloid when editing was less of a fine art. --David Stubbs

For fans of old skool kung fu films this is a must. A good plot, decent picture quality, dubbed dialogue that actually adds to the film. A real corker!

This film is without doubt one of THE best old school kung fu movies available to buy today. Carter Wong is increidble in this film as the laughing white haired kung fu master, all the fight sequences are choreoghraphed by Yuen Woo Ping and the action is breathetaking and almost non stop. If you love kung fu movies then this is an absolute must no questions asked. Having sat through alot of good and bad kung fu movies, this is in my all time top 3 along with 'Shaolin and Wu Tang' and '7 grandmasters' (available on dvd as an 'old skool double bill with eagles claw). If you don't own these 3 films you know nothing!

CLASSIC!!!! 26 April 2003
By 62nd assasin - Published on Amazon.com

Born Invincible must be the most underrated kung fu flick. Kung fu fans never mention this one with the other great classics. This movie is a true old school classic. It has "great fighting" scenes..many of them. It is hilarious. You will laugh every time you hear Carter Wong (who is the tai chi master) speak. Years of training tai chi made his hair white and voice high pitch. He also laughs every time he kills someone. Born invincible has every thing you like in old school kung fu... easily 5 STARS!!!!
$ well spend!

This is a Karate Movie fan's delight. 18 Nov 1999

Born Invincible with Master Lo Lieh (5 Fingers of Death) and Master Carter Wong (18 Bronze Men) was Superb! This movie had you rooting for the bad guys (Lieh and Wong) because they were so highly skilled. A Must See for any true fan. Wong was absolutely incredible. The footwork and style was first rate. Rivals Master Lui Chia Hui and Jet Li's technique.

An epic martail arts piece!! 23 Mar 2001
By Kenneth Ndelle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
Carter Wong is amazing as the invincible Tai Chi master. He wallops all his opponents, and as if that was not enough, he draws a symbol with his leg when fighting. Lo Lieh is his colleague and they are trying to wipe out a martial arts school led by Jack Long & Mark Long. The fight scenes were quite decent, but I did not like the way it ended. The good guys were by far no match for the bad guys. This is definitely a movie to keep for any wutang afficionado. Also check out Carter Wong in 18 bronzemen.
