Having seen the video for 'Sound of Love' on MTV the other night I thought I'd take the plunge a buy the album. Not knowing what I'd get, but having a rough idea if the rest of the album was like that single I thought it'd be good, if not better.
What I got - and am most pleased about - is my first impressions of that single struck me a bit of old-fashioned AC/DC stomping rock. The album is the same too - simple (ie no keyboards as far as I can hear) tight back-beat and short crunchy riffs that harbour back to the good old days of the late 70's when AC/DC were still good (again my opionion).
Mr Jones' voice has a deep husky tone (similar to Gene Simmons on a good day) which compliments the music well.
For me the standout track is 'Lovercall' which after it gets past the fast-talking verses ploughs into the catchiest chorus and music section you'll hear in ages.
'Suicide Woman' had a guitar lick that due to the 'widdly widdly' bit at the end had me thinking of the Sabs'Paranoid' - listen to it and you'll see/hear what I mean.
One drawback in these days of hour-long albums is that the 11 tracks clock in at only 36 minutes. Great if you want to tape it for the car, but another 10/15 mins would have made this a full 5-star album.
I'm off now to order the first album.
cheers

Like another reviewer, I took the plunge after seeing the video for Sound Of Love, and am I glad I did!
It's a great rocking album, and hits you straight away. It doesn't need 4 or 5 listens to get in to - I was well in to it during the first play.
I'm sure it won't be long until I know all the words and get funny looks at traffic lights.

but not good enough after you've heard some of their other stuff.

Somehow this album isn't quite as enjoyable as some of their others and if this album is your first introduction to the band you won't get a fair first impression.

The songs here are not quiet as fun, not quite so Rock, and a little less imaginative. For a first listen I'd recommend "We Sweat Blood" or "Im Alive & On Fire".

This is still a good album (I'm biased as a fan though) but even from the song title comparison to the other albums you can see the difference in content. More serious and less of the attitude, sass and rock style that make the others work so well

i am writing this review as i listen to the album for first time and it sounds brilliant already!. Ususally it takes a while for an album to grow on you but, i love this already!
There are comparisons with AC/DC (who i'm not a big fan of) but, the power chords are more of a reminder of the Cult around the electric/sonic temple era. The vocals are very heavily Hendrix influenced but with more venom
buy it now!
