And I thought there was nothing new to add to the legend...,

This review is from: Borley Rectory: The Final Analysis (Hardcover)
There hasn't been a decent book about the Borley hauntings since Ivan Banks' "Enigma of Borley Rectory", but this one is well worth a look. The authors relate the history of England's most haunted house but bring the story up to date with new facts and interviews. The writing partnership includes the widow of Borley's last rector, Lanfranc Matthias, to add a new dimension to an old tale. The prose is sometimes a little stilted, taking a more formal approach than some writers have done, but this only adds to the book's credibility, since any temptation towards sensationalism is kept in check. A fine addition to your Borley book collection and a welcome antidote to the appalling Louis Mayerling book which attempted to discredit the whole affair.

A genuine book by a genuine author.,
This review is from: Borley Rectory: The Final Analysis (Hardcover)
Borley Rectory; The Final analysis has been painstakingly put together over a number of years, and this clearly shines through in the quality of content of the book. Edward Babbs spent many years as a well respected member of the SPR, during this time he clearly spent a great deal of time looking into the phenomena and legends of Borley, not only looking into the sensationalist stories, but talking with the people of the local area who were alive at the time, and can remember a great many of the occurances from the rectory. This book shows a great attention to detail, with previously untouched material and content lovingly interwoven with the more well known legends. Mr Babbs takes a great deal of time to explain and detail the history and the legends of Borley and Borley rectory, whilst keeping the utmost respect for the residents of the village. The wording is very clear and concise which is nice to see after so many books on Borley being a jumbled mess of sensationalism with little thought in them. Finished off with antastic photographs, wonderful illustration, and general high quality all round this book is a pleasure to read, eye catching, and attractive to the book lover or paranormal enthusiast. Having met Edward Babbs to get my personal copy autographed, and being able to listen to him talk of his work with such a rare passion, it is obvious that this book was not written to make a fast buck, but infact to get the Real Borley story out into the open, in a sensible, logical mannor which is a refreshing change. I would highly reccomend this book for any history enthusiast, paranormal enthusiast, legend chaser or Borley fan.

A Hopeless Endeavour,
By Ian Cuthbert (Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Borley Rectory: The Final Analysis (Hardcover)
As the casual reader may know, long and detailed accounts of the supposed happenings at Borley have been the subject of several books, hundreds of broadcasts and a mountain of newspaper and magazine articles. This book seems to be a cut and paste job of some of the worst bits. It is an amalgam of other peoples investigations and there is nothing about it to recommend to the reader.
