I just love Delphi! The way you can quickly put together sophisticated Windows GUI apps is amazing (better and faster than VB even) and the database access components allow you to manipulate and browse databases. The Object Pascal language is a fully fledged object oriented dialect that is far more powerful than Visual Basic and a whole lot easier to understand than C/C++ and the compiler for OP is fast, VERY, VERY fast with an intelligent build/link system that automatically re-compiles anything that needs re-building. In fact, the performance of this compiler and linker easily out-strips ANY C/C++ systems (which need large, clunky pre-compiled headers and the like to approach anything like Delphi's speed). Compiled, efficient code means you get run time speeds equal to or close to that of C/C++ as well. For me it's always the first choice when choosing a system to develop Windows software, so much so that I couldn't imagine using anything else (it's a pity that you can't award more than 5 stars). And if you're a Linux head there is now a version for that OS too called Kylix. So, take if from someone who has used both Borland and Microsoft dev tools, do the sensible thing if you're choosing a programming environment - choose Delphi!

If you ever learned Turbo Pascal in school and wondered what the good ol' TP has become, well Delphi is the answer. It allows you to create with a click of the mouse the graphic of your program and then to put a few lines of pascal to get your own program. And since there is already a few hundreds "components" ready to use, you can really easily and quickly write Windows program. And unless VB, they are not slow, they don't take 6 Mb just for using one windows, and you can really dig down deep into the Windows API. And soon there will even be a Linux version.
