Book Description

1 Sep 2007
The perennial fantasy favourite features thirteen all-new paintings from the husband-and-wife team of Boris Vallejo, America's premier fantasy artist, and Julie Bell, designer of the popular Dragons of Destiny sculpture series. Enter a world of mythical beasts, fearsome monsters, and dreamy landscapes conjured from the far reaches of the imagination. And captivating women, rendered with exquisite anatomical detail: A huntress aims with lethal accuracy. A goddess, hair flowing, leaps above the waves. Plus warrior women, enchantresses, fairies, and sensual maidens, all alive with passion and intensity. An original fantasy narrative by C. J. Henderson, author of the Teddy London series, weaves the paintings together.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oh Boris 10 May 2009

I feel that Julie bell has degraded the quality of these calendars.
The old calendars painted by Boris Vallejo alone, were amazing.
Julie Bell appears? to be a competent artist but her style is different to Boris's (they should produce separate calendars).
I would not buy another now.

1.0 out of 5 stars Artwork cut up & made ugly / unusable in previous year 8 Jan 2008
By Angel Lee - Published on Amazon.com
I have been getting the calendar regliously for over 10 years. Last year I got one and was both shocked and dismayed that they placed the picture over the fold, so it was partially on the calendar date side. It looked terrible and made it impossible for me to do what I normally do, which is cut out the pictures and frame the nice ones after the year is over. Because of this, I will no longer buy thier calendars. Since they are sealed or only available online, there is no way to tell if they did this again. I'm sorry to see such a great calendar, that always had new, original art (something that can't me said for 95% of other calendars) that I looked forward to every year, destroy the art of the artist. I hope they take my advice and stop cutting the pictures off at the 75% mark. I can say with confidence I will never buy one again unless I can be certain this is not being done again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Fantasy Calendar 11 Nov 2007
By Christina Gaubert - Published on Amazon.com
I purchase this calendar every year. Their art work is amazing and from researching, these calendars sometimes increase in value as collectors items.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Gorgeous!!! 24 Nov 2007

This is my first Boris-Julie purchase, but it certainly won't be the last. This calendar is beyond beautiful. The women are powerful, sensual, curvy and strong, the men are mythic in strength and physical beauty, and the background and creatures are out of this world. Amazing colours and breath-taking details. This calendar is a must for the fantasy lover or simply anyone who adores the human form. My only suggestion would be to include the full and new moon dates on the calendar, but otherwise this is perfect. I will definitely order one for my next year's calendar as well. Keep up the masterful work, Boris and Julie! Mazel tov!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing Calendar 19 Nov 2007

I would only recommend this calendar to those who are collectors of Boris' work and are attempting to get as complete a set of calendar years as possible. To those who purchase occasionally because they appreciate his artistry, I advise you to stay away from this year's issue and stick with his books of art. I don't know why, whether Boris is toning down his work (similar to Picasso going through his Blue Period) or whether his publishers are forcing him to become a bit more sexually/politically correct, but this year's calendar is less erotic and exotic than almost any previous year, and I've been collecting since the mid-'80's. Oh, the artwork is still beautifully done in the typical Boris style, but the cutting edge artwork he has been known for, reknown for in fact, is absent. Again, I don't know if this was Boris' choice or forced upon him, but I hope to see the old Boris back again next year.
1.0 out of 5 stars Bring back the magic! 25 April 2008
By Laura Probst - Published on Amazon.com
This is not a review of the 2008 calender because, frankly, I didn't buy after last year's. Like the other reviewer who complained of the way the pictures had been placed, I, too, find it annoying and disruptive to the art. But honestly, I haven't been happy with the Boris calender since 1995, when it switched from mythology to fantasy. Over the years, I've found that the stories that caption the art don't really fit and oftentimes don't make sense to me. And although I have nothing against Julie Bell personally, her artwork, although superficially similar in style, isn't the same as Boris's; it's lighter and not as richly textured. If Boris, and Julie too if she must, ever go back to their mythological paintings for the calender, I will buy it again. But not until then.
