5.0 out of 5 stars Even working dogs need time off! 12 Jan 2006
By A Customer
A friend bought this DVD after seeing a review by Barbara Sykes (who described it as a "must see" in Freedom of Spirit magazine). The blurb says, "If you like dogs - you'll love this DVD" and it's right! It's a film about what Border collies do on their days off, but I think anyone who likes to see happy dogs of any (or no particular) breed will enjoy this. The action isn't set-up stunts or highly trained manoeuvres, just dogs being dogs and some gorgeous puppies being puppies. There are funny bits and touching bits; the photography is great and instead of a narration each chapter has its own music track, obviously carefully chosen to suit the character or the action. It also means it doesn't matter what language you understand - you only need to speak 'dog'!
80 minutes may seem like a long time to set aside to watch someone else's dogs having fun but you can always just pick and choose through the chapters. If you're like me, though, you'll find 80 minutes just flies by.
Highlights for me? The mad dash through the gate to be first out - whatever gets in the way - and the puppy who lets her playmate out of the kennel but really it's hard to single out any one scene or dog. Look out for Mel's accident and subsequent op but don't panic - she turns up fit and well later in an ad! There's also a slideshow of lovely photographs, some of which I think have also appeared in various sheepdog books.
If you like dogs, see this video; if you don't - buy it for someone who does. They'll thank you for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars border collie sheepdogs relaxing 21 Feb 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this dvd, very rivetting viewing it kept me glued to the set for the whole 80 minutes, the puppies were sll
cute, and I could have taken them all home with me to live with me. I have a 10 month old male border collie myself and could
imagine him running in fields like they did getting up to all sorts. This was very well made, thank you........

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for Collie fans!! 4 Jun 2008
If you love the antics of dogs generally, you will love this production. Very professionally put together, with the emphasis on the life and welfare of the owner's pack of beautiful collies! The narrator (and film maker) of the DVD is first class with timely, intelligent and euphonius rhetoric which keeps the viewer quite captivated. With a very obvious love of their animals, the producers have that rare and enviable luxury of dovetailing their business with pleasure: this is prevalent throughout the whole of the DVD and it becomes apparent very quickly that this time the creation of a much sought after theme isn't just about making a quick buck. I did, however, smart a little at their website which suggested that if you were unfit or dare I say it, of portly proportions, they would have to think twice about selling you a puppy!! I am VERY portly, and own a labrador and a collie cross (which I rescued from the wonderful Arthurshiel rescue centre in the St. Boswalls area of the Scottish Borders), both of which I have trained to an excellent standard and both which would not look out of place on a DVD of my own, I hasten to add!!
However, if they read this I will let them think about the moral fitness of such a decision and hope they would adopt a more discretionary attitude to the general public and perhaps change their views. It only remains to be said that I don't believe they were being too venomous in their ideals, rather I would suggest they do have the best interests of their animals at heart!!
Would I buy a follow up to this DVD?? Absolutely without question! Yes Kings Green, even us fatties adore you: some reciprocity would not go amiss!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous 31 Mar 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This dvd is a joy to watch. Its a must have for border collie fans!
Its nice to see how border collies interact and you do get an overview of each dog so you can recognise them by name. It had me laughing quite a lot and it has typical collie behaviour on it. The commentary was good, and very friendly.
Its a semi professional dvd but i think it add to the charm of the dvd as its not set up or pre rehearsed, its pure collie behaviour!

Please rate my review as helpful on the box below :)

You will like this DVD if you are a dog lover, If you are a Border Collie Lover you will love it. I enjoyed watching this from start to finish. I loved the fact you see the pups a few weeks old and then you get to see them all grown up. It was amazing to see so many Border Collies all relaxing and playing together and hardly a cross growl between them. Very well put together.
