Review

With sumptuous photographs and a fascinating label reference guide at the back, this is an appealing guide that one almost wants to open beneath one's nose and 'swill' around as if it were the very wine about which it enthuses. Part travel book, part eulogy to one of the world's most famous wines and wine-growing regions, it provides both an introduction for the new wine enthusiast, and a welcome addition to the library of any seasoned wine lover. The author is the founder of Wine Magazine and has written some 20 books on the subject, including the Good Wine Guide.

Product Description

This beautifully written and photographed book takes us on an evocative journey through the appellations of Bordeaux. You can discover the many and varied regions of Bordeaux from Margaux to St-Emilion, from the Medoc to Graves. You can savour the wines produced there, and understand how the climate, the soil and the people make the wines what they are. You can visit the chateaux, villages and vineyards of Bordeaux and meet the men and women who, every year, turn baskets of grapes into the bottles of wine that are among the most sought-after in the world. Along the way, Robert Joseph introduces us to figures who have shaped the history of Bordeaux. He also shares anecdotes about famous Bordeaux-lovers from Samuel Pepys to Richard Nixon.
