3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but a bit of a con. 26 Jun 2006
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is an interesting album of some reasonable 'pub rock'. Mark Knopfler and Dave Edmonds have little to do with procedings though! The album was recorded by a band called Brewer's Droop, with whom Knopfler was guitarist before forming Dire Straits. And this was before he'd developed that unique guitar style, so none of his distinctive singing, writing or instantly recognisable guitar. Even worse he doesn't play on all the tracks! Dave Edmunds association is even more tenuous, he produced some of the tracks, and contributes guitar on one of them. Looking at the cover you might think you were getting some duets between the two, or at least some major contributions, but they hardly feature!

Having said all that this is a pretty good album of pub blues/rock. The songs are well written and performed with some vigour and passion by the band. For fans of that sort of thing well worth the money. For people looking for a Mark Knopfler album forget it. Unless you're a serious completist you'll be dissapointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars something of a con 9 Jun 2006

I was very disappointed with the sound quality and content of this cd, and only gave it 1 star because that is as low as the scale goes. It was apparently recorded in the pub, and neither Knoplfler nor Edmunds are prominent. Knoplfer plays on 3 tracks, and Edmunds on 1. Save your money and don't bother with this con trick. Unless of course you actually want the pub band in which case.. .. ..

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit of a con 6 April 2014
Format:Audio CD
I have to say that I agree with the very lukewarm reviews here. It's verging on the dishonest to present this as a Mark Knopfler and Dave Edmunds album - they make cameo appearances on three tracks between them. The rest is mediocre pub-rock which would actually sound OK in a pub compared to some bands I've heard, but as an album it's pretty dull overall once you've heard it a couple of times.

It's a curiosity, really. I'm glad to have heard it, but I suspect I won't be playing it again. If you're dead keen to have a couple of very early Knopfler tracks in your collection it may be worth buying, but otherwise I'd probably say don't bother. It's not actively bad, but there's nothing worth getting excited over here.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what it seems 8 Dec 2007
Format:Audio CD
Don't buy this misleadingly advertised 1973 album just because you are a Mark Knopfler or Dave Edmunds fan. (Unless you are a real completist.) MK plays guitar on two tracks and DE on another. DE produced that one and three others. And that's it. The music itself is mostly pleasant enough although the style is a bit inconsistent. It went nowhere until it was packaged as if it was a duet album by DE and MK.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy listening 9 Jun 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This arrived very quickly and well packaged.
The music wasn't quite what I was expecting but as I like both guys, I still enjoyed the music. Nice to listen to when driving.
