4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story Assortment! 17 May 2011
By Chris Verstraete - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is a fun collection offering a range of interesting and unusual stories. A few of my favorities were "Cat People," a tragedy turned into hope via some unusual visitors; "The Devil is a Gentleman" certainly had me guessing; "Trophy Wife" has a funny, evil twist to it. I also really enjoyed "The Horned Man," a tale of choices, regret and nature gone amok.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny stories and thoughtful stories and stories that will creep you out! 21 Jan 2013
By Kurt A. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Throughout history people have told strange and wondrous tales about strange creatures and strange events that seemed to have happened somewhere nearby, well why not right here in the boondocks? Well, this book is a collection of fantasy short stories all written about here and now. There are tales of giants and selkies and devils and creatures better left unnamed. There are funny stories and thoughtful stories and stories that will creep you out!

Like all short story collections, I found this one to be a bit of a mixed bag. I really enjoyed some of the short stories, and I found some of them to be only OK. But, for the most part it is an enjoyable book, and I am very glad that I read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Out on the Far Side 13 Sep 2012
By Jennifer R. M. Toplitz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Lifestyles of the poor, isolated, or hidden by accident, (or on purpose) may seem stranger than fiction to most people in the mainstream anyway. This book takes you even further out, with twists ranging from the horrific to the fantastical. Some were a little wistful, some rather disturbing, & the quality was a little uneven. I really enjoyed a couple of them, & liked all of them. I downloaded the book to my Kindle, and consider the book worth the $,& space.
3.0 out of 5 stars Fun Quick and Fresh Fantasy 11 July 2014

I picked this book up for the cover and title. I made a deal with myself that I would go to the library and shelf surf for one book a month that was just too much uniqueness for me to pass up. I have been looking at this one for months it was calling to me daring me. I had to take it home.

I read it, and I liked all the stories except maybe three. They where just not my style of read at all. Many of these authors are not even seasoned writers, they are gaming programers, grandmothers, bird wranglers... a very mixed bunch with some very interesting little tales. Most were tales of county mysteries with otherworldly woo hoo. One story stood out different form the others. It was a heartbreaking read of lose and recovery after, Black Rider, It was very well done.

I am not a fan of anthologies at all but this one gave me a nice break from the popular authors and a fresh playing field for my mind to wander into.
