Top Customer Reviews

Format: Kindle Edition
An Englishman is sent to Africa to open a branch of his company's business in the remote oilfields of Nibana. Charlie Robinson quickly learns to deal with the greed and corruption, and flourishes. Just when he thinks he's got it all figured out, civil war destroys everything he has accomplished. But he's learned some valuable lessons on how to take advantage of any situation, and uses the opportunity to disappear and emerge a wealthy man in another location. Alas, karma manages to catch him in the end.

Mr Ryeland has written an interesting story and given us a fascinating look at another culture, and the problems associated with the development of a modern infrastructure. We tend to forget that the whole world doesn't have (or even want) an interstate road system, reliable power sources, and a MacDonald's on every corner. A quick read, very well-written and edited, Mr Ryeland does an excellent job of bringing his characters and settings to life. Good job, sir.
