5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect beginner's handbook 5 May 2009
Format:Paperback
Almost anything a beginner could need to know about (hand)bookbinding can be found in this book. Description of a starting kit, basic pamphlet-stitch and dos-à-dos, single and multi-section case-binding, glued spine binding, posts, japanese stab binding, surface sculpting, etc. Very clear step-by-step pictures. Only a pair of niggles in my opinion: coptic binding is not included, and the cover is subject to 'ears'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Tastic :) 10 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I think this book has just the right mix of projects, technical knowledge and a gallery of things to aspire towards. The author uses photos to illustrate techniques used, lots of helpful hints and tips and each project comes with some variations that can be tried if you are feeling adventurous.

My only complaint, as mentioned by another reviewer is that there is nothing on coptic stitching and the cover is indeed subject to the corners turning inward or `earring'

I think that this book is great for the beginner bookmaker but this, partnered with How to Make Books by Ester Smith, makes a really good start for both beginners and those with a little more experience looking to expand their ideas.
