5.0 out of 5 stars The BOOKCHAIR is a MUST HAVE! 11 April 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have had this lovely striped Bookchair for over six months. I would very highly recommend it to anyone who reads books. You will find you can read much more as you dont have to hold a book. It has several positions (like a deck chair) and the two levers at the front hold the pages in place while you read, and these levers or pegs are spring loaded so they pull out to accommodate the thickness of the pages they are holding down. I find it a joy to read in bed, as it sits on the bed clothes with no problem. At any table you sit back with your hands free. Whoever invented the Bookchair deserves a medal. I use mine with the Mighty Bright Extra Flex LED clip on book light. I clip this to the back of the Bookchair and it illuminates the whole book with its 2 [or 1] if you want LED lights. I use mine with the mains adaptor as it has an extremely long flex; but you can use it with batteries. If you read Books you MUST HAVE the Bookchair. I love it so much I have a Tranparent one, a blue standard wooden one, a medium striped one (which is ideal to put in your bag with your book), and this one the Standard one which is bigger than the medium one. Thank you so much for the Bookchair (I have never read so many books due to the comfort of reading with it).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great functionality, and great looks! 15 Aug 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've got this (standard stripes) one, and the standard blue one, and they both do a fantastic job. I prefer the stripes one as it's a lot more fun and the wood is stained a darker colour, which I think looks better. But the only thing you don't see from the photos provided is quite how bright the colours are: they are practically luminous. I really love it, and find that it really helps with my reading (I'm doing a phd in English and find it so useful to have my hands free to make notes, and also find that I get through the material a lot quicker somehow). I really like this design over the others I've tried as it props the book up by a good couple of inches, which makes it a better reading height as well as angle (which adjusts to suit you). It's easy to turn the pages, and the extendable page holders allow for really thick books, if needed. I'd choose this over the others out there (I've tried the Acacia Wood Book Stand / Lectern (which didn't look nearly as good as the images suggest and didn't hold the pages open), and the Easy Read book holder stand, which is very good at keeping the pages wide open, no need to flatten them first, but wasn't a good height and sometimes tilted to one side a bit, as well as being a bit of a pain if you are skimming a book and therefore want to turn the pages often). I recommend you go for this one. Would make a lovely gift too!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Brilliant 30 Jan 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Reasonable product for thick volumes - i.e. thick paperbacks and hardbacks of an average size - and most large (e.g. most recipe-sized/large textbook-sized) books; but worth noting that it is pretty useless for slim volumes, e.g. your average paperback novel, as the depth of the shelf holding the book, which makes it so useful for holding thick books, prevents it holding flat the pages of slim ones, as the pegs don't make contact with them until they've already started to close up (this also applies to slim hardbacks of any size).

Since first reviewing this, one of the pegs has dropped off!

Wouldn't buy again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but poor build quality on the page holders
When fully functional, the product itself is just fine, does what it says on the tin essentially. One thing I'd like though, is the ability to arch the book a bit more... Read more
