5.0 out of 5 stars The BOOKCHAIR is a MUST HAVE! 11 April 2009
Format:Accessory|Verified Purchase
I have had this lovely striped Bookchair for over six months. I would very highly recommend it to anyone who reads books. You will find you can read much more as you dont have to hold a book. It has several positions (like a deck chair) and the two levers at the front hold the pages in place while you read, and these levers or pegs are spring loaded so they pull out to accommodate the thickness of the pages they are holding down. I find it a joy to read in bed, as it sits on the bed clothes with no problem. At any table you sit back with your hands free. Whoever invented the Bookchair deserves a medal. I use mine with the Mighty Bright Extra Flex LED clip on book light. I clip this to the back of the Bookchair and it illuminates the whole book with its 2 [or 1] if you want LED lights. I use mine with the mains adaptor as it has an extremely long flex; but you can use it with batteries. If you read Books you MUST HAVE the Bookchair. I love it so much I have a Tranparent one, a blue standard wooden one, a medium striped one (which is ideal to put in your bag with your book), and this one the Standard one which is bigger than the medium one. Thank you so much for the Bookchair (I have never read so many books due to the comfort of reading with it).

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Brilliant 30 Jan 2011
Format:Accessory|Verified Purchase
Reasonable product for thick volumes - i.e. thick paperbacks and hardbacks of an average size - and most large (e.g. most recipe-sized/large textbook-sized) books; but worth noting that it is pretty useless for slim volumes, e.g. your average paperback novel, as the depth of the shelf holding the book, which makes it so useful for holding thick books, prevents it holding flat the pages of slim ones, as the pegs don't make contact with them until they've already started to close up (this also applies to slim hardbacks of any size).

Since first reviewing this, one of the pegs has dropped off!

Wouldn't buy again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great functionality, and great looks! 15 Aug 2009
Format:Accessory|Verified Purchase
I've got this (standard stripes) one, and the standard blue one, and they both do a fantastic job. I prefer the stripes one as it's a lot more fun and the wood is stained a darker colour, which I think looks better. But the only thing you don't see from the photos provided is quite how bright the colours are: they are practically luminous. I really love it, and find that it really helps with my reading (I'm doing a phd in English and find it so useful to have my hands free to make notes, and also find that I get through the material a lot quicker somehow). I really like this design over the others I've tried as it props the book up by a good couple of inches, which makes it a better reading height as well as angle (which adjusts to suit you). It's easy to turn the pages, and the extendable page holders allow for really thick books, if needed. I'd choose this over the others out there (I've tried the Acacia Wood Book Stand / Lectern (which didn't look nearly as good as the images suggest and didn't hold the pages open), and the Easy Read book holder stand, which is very good at keeping the pages wide open, no need to flatten them first, but wasn't a good height and sometimes tilted to one side a bit, as well as being a bit of a pain if you are skimming a book and therefore want to turn the pages often). I recommend you go for this one. Would make a lovely gift too!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect study aid! 25 Sep 2009
Format:Accessory|Verified Purchase
I bought myself the Bookchair to help with my OU studies and it's been perfect. I no longer have to struggle to keep my textbooks open when writing notes - now the book sits proudly open on its own chair! It really does help to prevent neck strain and improve posture as well. It's also great for the kitchen so you can keep your cookbooks open on the right page and it helps keep the book nice and clean. It's a really high quality item - the wood is very smooth and a lovely colour and the stripy fabric is very bright and cheerful!

4.0 out of 5 stars FUN AND STURDY 15 Feb 2011
Format:Accessory
This is sturdy, and holds sheets of paper and books well. It looks good, and brings a light-hearted touch to our computer. However, it is much deeper than we thought, and will not fit in the small space we had allocated, despite us trying to research this before purchase. From front to back, it measures about 27-28 cm.

4.0 out of 5 stars The stripey deckchair 6 Feb 2011
By Shedman
Format:Accessory
I decided to opt for the Standard Stripes since my wife needed something to help her arthritic hands whilst reading Ken Follett's 850 page 'Fall of Giants'. A very satisfactory purchase and robust manufacture apart from an annoying page constrainer! The spring loaded page constrainers are very good especially when reading overly thick books, however with the constant ajustment of these whilst turning pages, the small screw came loose and the wooden constrainer fell off on the left hand side twice. However it was a an easy matter to re-fix adding a small dab of super-glue between the screwhead and brass ferrul within the spring and it has been OK since.(Manufacturer please take note!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks great - functions badly 17 Aug 2011
Format:Accessory
By August, the Bookchair I'd bought two months earlier was useless due to a simple fault. The two page clips are sprung to accommodate different sized books. (An aside: As other reviewers have pointed out, this is works well for larger tomes, but is useless for slimmer books). Just a couple of months into using the Bookchair, the spring for one of the clips has broken. This means the product now works poorly even for bigger books. A cute-looking product, maybe, but not functional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product
Very useful, Good size for all types and size of recipe books. The little clips at the front are a little flimsy but still hold the pages well enough. Love the pattern.
