This book was a recommended purchase by my tutor. It is not a particularly inspiring book but perhaps this is not surprising considering it was written in 1910! My advice would be to save your money and put it towards a copy of The Manual of Book-binding (Thames & Hudson) written by Arthur W.Johnson.
In summary, l would recommend that you borrow this book from the library before you purchase it. This will then allow you to consider if you will keep it on the workbench or gather dust on the bookshelf.

As far as I can tell, this book was originally published in 1910, so it is in the public domain. I figured that was the reason two publishers have re-released it in 2009. FYI, Google Book Search has a "full view" PDF you can download of the original edition, for free.

Terrible reprint of a great book

Douglas Cockerell's Bookbinding and the Care of Books is a classic text on the proper binding and repair of books, emphasizing high-quality materials and book-making techniques. He would be rolling in his grave at this shoddy reproduction of his work. It is essentially a poor-quality photocopy of the original text with a cheap adhesive binding. Almost all of the pages feature black marks in the margins, and some pages are illegible. A printed statement at the beginning of the text states that this is a "scarce antiquarian book," as if this excuses the poor-quality reproduction. However, far better editions of Cockerell's text are easy to find. Do yourself a favor and buy one of them instead.

Bookbinding is out growth of the love of book. You read books, you collect books, You clean and care for your books like the books are your lover.....ask any book lover! They might not say to you if your a stranger but if your a book lover you can spot them in thrift shops, libraries.. your sure to find them....this book is just what it declairs it is.....the Care of Books, I put in the Love as it is another book that makes sure you can reconize the dangers to books, How to keep them in great shape and gives a history of the care as long ago when the paper was made of linen and appealed to moths and bookworms....I bet some you of thought a bookworm was a person....not so, If, you love books and bookbinding and libraries....this is the book for you.
