4.0 out of 5 stars So, what exactly does the Wyrm DO?, 2 Oct 2001
This book provides three main areas of information; Pentex (of course), the BSDs (of course) and, interestingly enough, the nature and metaphysics of the Wyrm itself, along with a quick intro to the wyrms 'generals' and their lair in the Umbra, Malfeas.
This one is of greatest use to Storytellers who are planning a long campaign rather than a once-off game, as it details enemies of different levels of power. Thus your players can move from rank 1 warriors raiding pentex facilities and bashing fomori to rank 5 umbral voyagers on a mission to malfeas (arguably the most dangerous location detailed in WoD, except maybe Caine's bedroom when he wakes up on a monday morning).
Its nasty, but not Black Dog nasty (and if you want to see who Black Dog Games work for, look in here), so it shouldn't disgust the weak stomached all that much. Well, OK, maybe it will, but they should probably look to play Changeling instead.

3.0 out of 5 stars So, you want to know more about Banes, Wyrm and BSD's?, 29 Jul 1999
By A Customer
Actually, I would give the book 3.5 crowns. It's nice in a way of it's own and has a few good bits in it (I liked the BSD section alot, especially their twisted Litany). But this book tends to have the so White-Wolf typical problem: It tends to go very much in the direction of powergaming (with just ridiculously overpowered banes & co).

Now this may be what some people want - but not me, if you want to power these creatures down, you might as well use banes/powers you think up yourself. Yes, yes - I know that Wyrm is supposed to be having a 'winning streak' and all that, but some things just go WAY beyond the top.

On the other hand, it does have a few nice descriptions about Malfeas & BSD life - how to be a 'good' BSD, how Garou become these wretched creatures, etc.

So how is it all in all? Well, it has some nice infos regarding the 'big bad entity' - but also posesses some rather mediocre parts (the 'lords of Malfeas' section is too long for it's own good) - unfortunately. If you take the ideas present in this book, and convert the things you read so that it fits your needs (and non-deity players have a chance of survivng), you can have some very interesting sessions.

Buy with this book with caution ... it may not be a 'Black Dog' book, but it could be one ... and being mature enough to take the stuff seriously in this book that it *IS* dangerous stuff, would be a good idea. So - use for advanced players ... not necessarily something for starters.
