Book Description

"The whole Word of God is of use to direct us in the duty of prayer." As we seek the delight of communion with God, it is our desire that our prayers reflect the Word that we have been given. This book contains 1,189 prayers, one for each chapter of the Bible. These can be used in a variety of public and private settings as companions to our regular reading of the Scriptures.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book of Prayers 5 Feb. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have found this book of prayers to be very helpful since it is a single prayer for every chapter of the Bible. I use it as my first formal prayer in my morning devotion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Responding To What God Has Said 26 April 2013
By William D. Perkins - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Preparing prayers from your reading of the scripture is a marvelous way to respond to reading the word of God. It is quite noticeable that Pastor Magee is careful to articulate what God has said and then to speak in response to the person of God. For this reason, this book serves not only as a model for prayer, but also as a kind of commentary on the book and an example of how we should read the scriptures.

One of the values of this book, is to see how one should read scripture with a view first of being able to answer the question - what did I just read? That is - what does this passage say? Pastor Magee doesn't do this in an academic way, as if God doesn't know what he said, but in a summary kind of way acknowledging just what God did say.

Another value in the book, is to see that any reading of scripture should provoke a response. Your response may not be the same as Pastor Magee's, but that in part arises out of the richness of God's word to persons and the work of His Spirit in us. His responses encourage us to see how all of scripture is meant to be responded to and aids in the transforming of our minds.

There really is no way to go wrong with this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good content, bad formatting (for eReaders) 5 Feb. 2014

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The content in this book is good, but it's all but impossible to navigate from chapter to chapter and book to book to find specific prayers. The table of contents is not linked, and a lot of the book doesn't show up in search. If you want to go straight from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22, go for the Kindle version. If you want to jump around, I'd recommend the hard copy.

3.0 out of 5 stars The prayers are good, but the Kindle version isn't 4 Feb. 2014
By Kelly - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I rate it OK because the content itself makes up somewhat for the unwieldiness of the Kindle version. There's no active table of contents, so to find the prayer that goes along with the daily reading you have to first guess where the beginning of a book is, then page through to the particular chapter. After this, using bookmarks helps for the subsequent days but it still takes more effort than it should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep and Wide 21 Jan. 2014
By Andrew Priddle - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The brief description of this publication captured my attention immediately. I bought it and after a rapid assessment was glad I had done so. I drew to it the attention of a friend with many years of pastoral and general Christian experience who after evaluation of the book emailed, "Thank you for drawing my attention to this gem."

Gem: that's a really good description! I've no doubt that people react in different ways to the same book as they do to films. It seems to me, however, that A BOOK OF PRAYERS will have most readers spiritually fascinated and nourished by this ever so careful testimony in prayer to the magnificence of the true and living Triune God and His dealings with His people; and by its all-pervasive invitation and encouragement to prayer.
5.0 out of 5 stars Content Great, Kindle Book Not So Much 26 April 2014
By Brian D. Cogbill - Published on

Prayer is often times overwhelming, and even when I do pray my heart and mind wander, but this book has helped me focus my prayers to conformity of God's Word. Praying His Word back to Him has been a wonderful balm for my soul.

The downside is that if you're looking for a specific chapter in the Kindle version, you can't navigate to it very easily. Maybe it's because I'm a novice when it comes to technology, but locating a chapter in the Bible with a link in the table of contents would be much easier IMO.

It's still easily worth 5 stars, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone who desires to commune with their Lord.
