Book Description

12 May 2011
Based on documentations between 1988 and 1993, this novel revolves around one woman’s struggle against poltergeist activity, demonic possession and ultimate Exorcism at her home in the quaint English village of Slapton, Buckinghamshire.

It is unknown how the demonic spirit came to be at the cottage, but its presence resulted in a battle ensuing between God and Satan as they waged war for souls.

Finding herself caught in the middle and desperate for salvation from the evil spirit and ghosts which resided with her, Joanna turned to the Church for help, only to discover that the Exorcist appointed for the task would be less than accommodating.

Review by Jo-Jo

If your tastes for true ghost tales are more about only scratching the surface, with action over substance, then I doubt this book will be for you. Most ghost stories tend to focus on things that go bump in the night and other ghostly pranks who s objective is to terrify the occupants to the point they eventually abandon the house to the ghost. Although I enjoy reading peoples true encounters with ghosts and stories of haunting, these kinds of books always leave me wanting.
Why is it there?
Why does it behave the way it does?
What is it?
How does it all work?
How can it be stopped?
Rarely are these questions answered because the author focuses on the physical nature of the haunting rather than exploring the metaphysical aspects of it.

Book of Trinity, however, is less action more substance. This is a book of many layers, much darker and more complex than most books of this genre. There are examples of poltergeist activity in it, as well as possession and its affects on those involves but, as a ghost story, it is much more subtle than most. In fact, haunting are subtle. The way in which spirits interact with us is subtle. It is precisely for this reason that, unless you are the focus of a spirit s malign behaviour, their existence is so hard to prove.

I would class this book more as a psychological supernatural thriller, than the classic supernatural horror. It explores the mental affects that manifest themselves whilst someone is under attack from malign spirits. The dreams, for example, venture into the disturbed mind with powerful discourse.

The book is also written like a diary of events, with each chapter giving dates and times so that the reader is able to gauge a better feel for the time-scale. The author does claim the book is based on written journals so I think to adopt this style within the structure of the book was a nice touch.

It has to be noted though, that this book is marketed as a novel and written in the third tense. It is also stated as being based on a true story , which suggests that the author has left the reader to decide what they believe is the truth of it and what is artistic interpretation. But for me, the very depth and darkness of this novel was enthralling enough, regardless of how much is deemed factual and how much is not.

MITCHELL SANDERS - TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION.
I am an avid reader of horrors and have had the pleasure of reading some outstanding novels about the supernatural over the years. This book is no exception. There is not much I can really add to the previous reviewer's comments except - this book is unique. It brings together conventional Christian belief structure with those who follow occultism or paganism. No wonder the Church are so threatened by psychics and occult theology; it blows their religious ideals apart. As to whether this novel is wholly truthful or embellished, I really can not comment. It poses a totally different concept on the supernatural world from anything I have come across before. A concept that I stuggle to believe to be the truth. But regardless of how much of it I wish to accept as factual, it is still a truly great read for the story alone.

This novel is brilliant. Wierd, but brilliant. I highly recommend it to all you supernatural horror lovers out there. --Alibris.com

About the Author

Although 'Book of Trinity' was completed in 1995, it was swiftly assigned to a box in the loft, where it remained for 15 years. It was only after the topic of this book came up in idle conversation with a friend, that the original manuscript was retrieved from its box for the friend to read. A.J. Ryder had never previously attempted to get this work published, rather the book was thought of more as a personal thesis at the time of writing - the objective being nothing more than an attempt to try and gain a better understanding of the whole experience that had happened in that house all those years ago. So why publish it now? Well, maybe its time for the story to be told …

5.0 out of 5 stars Chess Anyone? 12 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book will appeal to anyone who has had a brush with the paranormal or if they have been unfortunate enough to encounter the great master of disguise. A.J Ryder shares the horrific reality of Demonic Attack. The church is most insulting and her one and only chance of freedom is through a dedicated medium (who is judged ruthlessly inspite of his honest and loyal approach to his spiritual work) I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the detailed account of the game of chess played with The Devil. The author didn't waste an ounce of imagination and the images flew off the page to the enthralled reader (which was me!)This is a book that will hook you from the start, educate you without a doubt and plant a seed that will remain.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terribly written and boring to be honest 1 Jan 2013
By Tammy
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read a lot of true stories based on the paranormal and this I found to be theatrical and somewhat hard to believe at times. It also seemed like more of love story to be honest between the main character and her new found psychic friend. I'm sure there's other out there who would enjoy this book but it just wasn't for me. Frightening scary or realistic is not the theme of this story at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: THIS IS A NOVEL GUARANTEED TO CREEP YOU OUT! 12 Feb 2011
By J Lawrence - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you love reading James Herbert books, you'll definitely enjoy this novel.

It made compelling reading from cover to cover. But if you're easily frightened by things that go bump in the night, don't read it at bedtime - unless you don't mind sitting bolt upright in bed all night, with the light on!

The author skilfully builds the story page upon page with a clear, smooth writing technique that encourages the reader to want to know what's going to happen next. You certainly think you know each character personally, by the end, as if you were there with them at the time.

The author's intelligent take on ghosts, haunting and all things paranormal is quite unusual. Although similar to The Exorcist in many ways, this book comes at the subject from a completely different angle, leaving the reader left with as many questions as answers by the end of the book. I like a book that makes you think.

This book is SO BORING! I used it to put me to sleep at night. Toward the end, I found myself skipping over whole paragraphs. It sounded so interesting, but man, what a let down!
