This 432 Kindle location ebook contains roughly thirty poems written by Josephine Preston Peabody - an adult! I'm amazed at how child-like she was able to sound. The author really captured the spirit of the young mind.
There are poems about the wind, a sunset, church, dogs, and angels. They were originally published together in 1910, but a handful appeared in 1903 in Harper's Monthly Magazine. I wish the forward had given more info on her life and other works.
The ebook details state there should be illustrations. These do not appear in this offering. I wish Amazon would stop loading classic ebooks labeled as illustrated that rarely contain the drawings.
My favorite poem out of all is one titled: The Polite Visitor. It starts like this...
I feel polite, outside the door
But when it should begin
I can't remember
Not to ask
If just their cat is in.
Cute! The little kiddo just wants to see the cat, not the rest of the family. It goes on from there. I found them all charming.
