Product Description

As good design is the key to a successful garden, this book has collected together some of the best of today's structural garden plans, providing practical solutions for sites of varying size and shape in both town and country. After an introduction that explains the basics of garden design, the text features over 150 structural garden plans divided into thematic chapters. The plans include those for problem sites, such as small, narrow, shaded or sloping gardens, as well as key garden features such as steps, decking, boundaries, water features, lighting, ornaments, together with key planting. The book also includes a glossary of terms and techniques, as well as a directory of the designers' contact details.

Inspirational 14 Mar 2007
By Sally
Format:Hardcover
As a relatively new garden designer, I have found this publication extremely helpful. It shows a wide range of professional designers' work and covers an interesting spectrum of contexts, such as themed and country gardens with photographs to show how plans have been realised. I also found it very useful to see a wide range of drawing/ graphic styles, the most unusual of which was a three dimensional combination of drawing combined with cut-up photographs. Superficially this could be describes as a coffee table book, but it is one that I've gone back to endless times when searching for some inspiration. A new publication by the same people is out now and looks specifically at plans for small gardens. It is of similar high quality and would be useful to both trainee and working designers.

Too technical 20 Mar 2011
By GOS
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If I had picked this up and thumbed through it in a shop, I would not have bought it. I would have liked a lot more photographs of the actual gardens. The technical drawings were probably brilliant but way over my head. Sorry!

Waste of Money 22 Jun 2007
By P. MacDonald - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I do not find this book helpful at all. Most designs are just one page. There is a rather fuzzy architect drawing, one TINY picture of some obscure part of the garden ( one picture is actually just a close up of a small portion of a birch tree!), and a 2-3 paragraph blurb. That is all there is to see of any one design. As a professional gardener, I do not find any of this helpful. The detail is hardly clear enough to decipher. The sample picture is useless, and the script is not enough to be of use. I am sending it back.

By Susana Comandone - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
i'm a landscape designer student from argentina and i found Book of garden Plans very useful and helpful because it shows that there're uncountable ways to design gardens, landscapes, even patios and terraces, with beatiful pictures, clear plans and suggestions of solutions. all these explained in a very easy way.
