4.0 out of 5 stars Charmingly Scottish 2 Jun 2009
Format:Hardcover
This is a delightful little story book, written in the most broad Scottish dialect, using Scottish idioms & vocabulary to make it an unexpectedly amusing read - but it has to be read in a Scots accent!
Something for children & adults, & because the stories are so well know then even non-Scots speakers should understand all the wee quips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Traditional Fairy Tales in Scots Dialect 5 Jun 2010
Format:Hardcover
This is a brilliant book to read to children who are already familar with the traditional version of the fairy tale. It makes them laugh, appreciate their own dialect and the language discussions (opinions, comparing, sequencing, plot, character profiles etc) become animated and very useful. Who would have thought that a class of ten year olds would love listening to fairy tales?

Seriously Silly Stories is another book along this line....with stories such as Snow white and the Seven Aliens and Little Red Riding Wolf to name but two.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wee book of Fairy Tales in Scots 10 July 2011

Absolutely fantastic. Being an expat Scot, my pronunciation was a bit off but my granddaughter still got a kick out of it and amazingly could work out what I was trying to say:)

3.0 out of 5 stars NIce book
This is a nice book but the fairy tales are really long so not suitable for a baby but would be good for an older child (5yrs).

Fabulous - how fairy tales should be read. We loved it. What was great was not just the scots language- but the idiom, and the humour. Irrverant retellings, downright rude poems! Read more
