Book Description

24 Mar 2011 Kumon Workbooks
Kumon workbooks are based on the 'Kumon Method', an educational philosophy that aims at unlocking the full learning potential of each individual child. The Kumon Method introduces learning concepts in an incremental, step-by-step approach, allowing children to master new skills easily and without anxiety or frustration. As a result, children gain confidence in their abilities and are motivated to learn on their own. This second book of tracing bridges the gap between My Book of Tracing and My First Book of Mazes by offering more advanced tracing exercises.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helped With Pencil Control 1 Jun 2009
By Ursula K. Raphael TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
My three-year old could have finished this in one sitting if I let him. We've been doing a lot of maze books to help improve his pencil control since he was two years old because he is a lefty - it's hard for him to see around his own hand.

However, the mazes in this book were some very interesting shapes (ex: scissors and a mermaid), and the "paths" of the mazes are wide enough that your child will easily be able to stay between the lines.

Also, the Kumon books achieve exactly what they state, so I recommend My Book of Mazes: Things That Go! (Kumon Workbooks) and My Book of Mazes: Around the World for something more challenging.

5.0 out of 5 stars You should probably start these at age 2 18 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback
My friend introduced me to this series of Kumon books when she saw my little boy charge through page after page of his Thomas and Peppa activity books. She recommended the mazes book which her 2.5 year old really enjoyed. My son was 2.5 when he started on this too, concurrently with the colouring book from this series. What he got out of this book was the development of his writing skills and also the technique to solving mazes. If your child is already able to hold a pencil and knows roughly how to solve a maze (ie get stuck go, back track and find a different route) then I suggest starting with the next book up. The age is more a rough guide depending on the child's ability.

The book I have comes from overseas and is the one sold in N America. I am not sure if the UK editions have a different syllabus but you should really follow their progression chart as the books have been developed to increasing according in level of difficulty. This book is the beginning of the hierarchy of maze books. Other harder books follow on from these; the progression for this book is My First Book of Mazes (3-4-5), followed by Amazing Mazes (4-5-6), followed by My Book of Mazes: Animals (5-6-7), followed by My Book of Mazes: Things That Go (5-6-7), and followed finally by My Book of Mazes: Around The World (5-6-7).

I was apprehensive about starting on the Kumon programme at this young an age but my son LOVES IT so I don't feel like I am being pushy! But as per the instructions in the book, I restrict him to 2 sheets (4 sides) per book per day because in line with their philosophy, the activity should be little but often and structured. They should be left wanting to do some more which initially they won't really understand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great books 11 Jan 2010
By Juicy L
Format:Paperback
I bought the mazes, colouring & tracing Kumon books for my 3 yr old, who is very much in to colouring & dot to dots at the minute

They are much bigger than I expected, nice big pages & colourful pictures, and solid (not cheap paper where the pen will blot through)

Only down side is I would like to have had a few more blank pictures to colour in in the colouring book, as they are learning books they give colouing tasks not just blank pictures to colour - still all fab books though
