Product Description

Synopsis

Shortly after the catastrophic Tsunami in Asia, a team from the UK design agency iLovedust came up with the idea of creating a book of graphic design, illustration and photography to raise money for charities helping victims of the crisis. Thanks to generous support from designers and partners, DGV turned this dream into reality. "A Book Designed To Help" features close to 1,000 artworks from over 240 international contributors. The lavish, though affordable, hardcover was not only published to support a good cause, but is also a significant update of current visual creativity from around the world. It includes a foreword by Mark Sinclair, Senior Writer at renowned UK design magazine "Creative Review." German printer Engelhardt & Bauer, paper manufacturer Scheufelen and bookbinder Spinner supported the project by providing their services at cost price. Their substantial contributions have not only guaranteed a publication of the highest quality, but also ensure that as much money as possible will go directly to those victims who need it most.

The net profits from the sale of "A Book Designed To Help" will go to respected worldwide charity organization CARE, who will use the funds to help the poorest communities recover from the Tsunami disaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Designed To Help, 28 April 2005

This review is from: A Book Designed to Help (Hardcover)
A wonderful creation in such a short amount of time, this book proves that something special can be done with a bit of effort. With a huge selection of work you will be thumbing through the pages for hours. Well done to all involved and all that submitted (especially that gpop on pg 50). Buy this book for all it stands for even if you arent a huge design fan its a good cause and a good bookshelf filler.

gpop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye candy galore, 16 July 2006

This review is from: A Book Designed to Help (Hardcover)
This is a very impressive collection of current design/fine art. Though it is technically a design book, there are a lot of fine art'ish pieces in the book. There really isn't a theme, just 300 pages of really cool design work.

Also, the book is laid out more like a Design Annual. There aren't break downs of the thought processes for each design, which was the point. The book was created as a culmination of current (and quite amazing) design, to help the victims of natural disasters. The idea for the book came after the southeast-asia Tsunami disaster.

All in all a really great buy and for a great cause.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK FOR ANY ARTIST!, 14 Oct 2005

Excellent book for artist wanting to know what is currently design or art in the world. Not that it is an end-all for good design but it is very inspiring. A+ in the way I process art.
