A profile of one of the most commercially successful white blues bands of the 1960s. Fronted by the man-mountain that was Bob Hite, they enjoyed international success with hits such as 'On the Road Again' and 'Going Up the Country'. The story of their rise to fame is told here by the surviving band members and management.

when I first saw this it was on a laptop in hotel room in Vienna & now it's been released since Febuary 2007 Ive watched it at least 15 times.

It starts with the "Best Swing & Boogie Drummer in the World - Fito De La Parra" speaking about Woodstock & then goes into never seen footage of Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson playing his Gibson Goldtop with some beautifully crafted Slide Guitar & as he moves his fingers on the Slide I get the "Most incredible Shivers".

This Documentary has taken 4 years to make ( Thanks Ray for doing this)

It tells the whole story of the early years about all the members leaving & dieing & drug taking & just about everything.

You even get rare footage of John Lee Hooker & Canned Heat Live & many other never been seen footage.

I really like the bit with the painting of an Elephant bright Purple (Elephant friendly paint eh Fito )

The BEAR Bob Hite on top of this Purple Elephant walking to the Stage (This photo made the LA TIMES at the time.)

At over 2 hours long any Canned Heat fan will love this & if you only know a little about Canned Heat say just their Hit records like "ON THE ROAD AGAIN" "GOING UP THE COUNTRY" & "LET'S WORK TOGETHER" ALL INCLUDED ON THIS DVD.

This is one fantastic Dvd that you will watch again & again.

KEEP ON' KEEPIN' ON & DON'T FORGET TOO BOOGIE

No doubt about it this is a very interesting DVD. It is however the story of Canned Heat from their early times in the sixties through to the present day. Much of the DVD is centered around interviews with Fito, Heat's long standing drummer and their manager Skip Taylor who both recall stories of past times. The interviews are interspaced with footage from various concerts (footage is varying quality from amateur onwards). With the story coming in at 140 minutes I would have preferred to see more live footage. I will consider buying Heat Live at Montreaux to compliment this DVD. I will watch it several more times and accept it for what it is...The Canned Heat story which is told in an interesting and captivating way.

Quite nice, actually. Some good rare live footage along with the, at times really funny, memoires by Skip, Larry and Fito.
The overall Canned Heat history is duly covered. Maybe I would have personally enjoyed a larger share showing the band when
the Blind Owl was still there, but still it's a very good DVD. I'll be seeing it quite frequently, although at some points
it gets to be a bit of a monologue by Fito.

The dvd's were fine,it's just that Amazon sent me two copies of Boogie with Canned Heat then had the nerve to charge for the extra one plus exhorbitant postal charges.Needless to say i will never again order anything from Amazon again.

Too mucher talk, not enough Boogie!! 28 Mar 2014

While not a great work, "something is better than nothing". It is basically a lengthy interview with Fito De La Parra, the Heat's long term drummer, full of his reminiscences and anecdotes about the band. There is very little in the way of video clips of the band in musical flight, and what is there are generally truncated versions, which certainly does disappoint. More music - full live performances - would certainly have increased the interest level. None-the-less, Fito does have some interesting tales to tell, both about the band and the times. He is a bit disparaging and critical of some of his fellow band mates, but I guess that is how he saw/experienced things, and maybe that's how it was. At least he doesn't give give us a whitewashed "Band of Sweethearts" version. There were "issues", and Fito is not backward in revealing them, hopefully in an honest, unembittered, fashion. The Disc makes an interesting bookend companion to the double DVD "On The Road Again", which, while itself imperfect, does contain much video footage of the band in performance. My copy was a Pal version, with quite acceptable video and audio.

Overall, an interesting, if unessential, purchase. Watch it once, even twice, then a shelf filler. "Live in Montreux" is the one!!

Please provide some info on this DVD. How long is it, what songs are on it, where was it filmed, when was it filmed? I might be interested if I had a better idea of what was for sale.
