3.0 out of 5 stars Enough scares and gore to keep horror fans happy., 4 Sep 2008
By Mr. D. Bell "Dan Bell" (Northampton, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
The first Boogeyman man film was creepy in places but could never be classed as an out an out horror. It was more a psychological thriller. Neither classification matters really as it was just boring and devoid of any real memorable moments.

Boogeyman 2 should have stood alone and been marketed as a standard stalk and slash film. Its links to the original are tenuous and having it as a sequel does it a disservice as it is much better than the original. It sticks rigidly to the template of this type of film; Horrific opening, slow introduction to the characters, deaths occur frequently and increase in nastiness and the final showdown between the villain and the sole survivor. What makes it better than the average is some original deaths and some genuine, edge of your seat, creepy moments.

The cast is mainly full of no name actors. The only famous one is Tobin Bell who will now forever be known as "Jigsaw" from the saw movies. Most of the performances are OK but they are not helped by some awful dialogue. At one point Tobin Bell states that someone is suffering from "Boogeyphobia"!! How he said this with a straight face I will never know. This is a good example of why the film should not have been titled "boogeyman 2" just to avoid ridiculous lines like this.

Overall this is a very enjoyable stalk and slash horror film. There are enough scares and plenty of gore to keep most horror fans satisfied.

I enjoyed the first boogeyman film and wanted to see this sequel and overall it was fairly good.I like Tobin Bell and he put in a good performence. The story was quite good and the scares where in the right places. There are better horror's out there but this is worth a watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good dose of horror and gore from inside a psychiatric hospital!, 10 Feb 2008
By R. Carpenter (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Another enjoyable and inventive 'slasher' for gore fans, with a twist at the end.

This film is set in a psychiatric hospital ten years after two small children witnessed the brutal murder of both their parents.

Hoping to overcome her phobia of the Boogyman that killed her parents (and after her brother was sucessfully treated), the heroine checks herself into hospital with a group of young people, all learning to overcome different personal fears.

After the boogyman appears in the clinic the patients start dying in a variety of bloody ways, related to their individual fears and those who are left are locked inside the hospital until morning.

Tobin Bell doesn't have a massive part but as the lead psychiatrist he's an important figure that features in all the important scenes. He's creepy too - I wouldn't want a man with a demeanour and voice like that to be my psychiatrist, especially if he is the Boogyman!!

If you like blood and guts, you'll probably enjoy this film but fans of the Saw films will find there isn't as much suspense and background plot. A very good film though, one to add to most horror collections.
