I started Bonsai recently and saw Craig Coussins at a Bonsai convention. He was very inspirational and a truly excellent teacher. I got his book, Bonsai for Beginners, and this was the book I needed to understand the world of Bonsai. I use it all the time as a reference and enjoy the hundreds of excellent photographs throughout the book. I am very happy to write this review as this book, in my opinion, is the best Bonsai book on the market.

It's been a long time since I have read a book that is well laid out with lots of techniques, hundreds of good photographs and easy to follow instructions. While it states that it is a book for beginners, well then, are we not all beginners in reality? Because this book does not patronise the reader but carefully shows motivational examples of what a beginner can expect to do from the start through the first three or four years of learning all about Bonsai. The author is obviously an experienced teacher and this comes out in his easy to read words, which flow very nicely. In fact, it is not so much a reference book but a book one can sit down and happily read. Many excellent mature examples sit in amongst beginner efforts. The author is not scared to show some of his earliest attempts and how they developed from ugly ducklings into quite beautiful swans. This only achievable because he has taken photographs since he started the hobby nearly thirty years ago. This is 'must buy' book for the newcomer as well as the enthusiasts and general gardener.

This book covers all the relevant points in Bonsai growth and maintenance. It is clear, concise and pretty easy to follow. Great images, many taken by professional photographers, give this book a very readable quality. It is the most illustrated book on the market at this time. There is one tiny error in description of one image but this is very minor and nothing to stop the reader from learning a whole lot about Bonsai. At the price offered, it is, indeed, a bargain. Get it now for it will be your main Bonsai reference on your bookshelf.

great all round book on all types of bonsai.
This book is laid out extremely well with clear representations of techniques and practices. I think it's ideal for all levels of Bonsai enthusiast from beginner to expert. Read more
