Bono is one of rock music's most exceptional figures. For more than two decades he has been the front man for U2, arguably the world's leading band. His powerful stage presence and distinctive voice have captivated the imaginations of thousands of loyal fans. In Bono: The Biography bestselling writer Laura Jackson examines closely the many aspects of this eternally restless singer's life. Drawing on many sources, including those who have know and worked with Bono over the years, this book brings to light the many qualities of this remarkable man. It gives an insight into his life and music, as well as his strong social conscience, his dedication to a variety of humanitarian causes and his passionate commitment to world issues. I was surprised to learn that Laura Jackson had written biographies of other rock stars. This is the least interesting book on U2 that I have ever read! The facts are there, but written in a flat style which, as a friend of mine to whom I gave it said, made her think she was going to be tested at the end of each chapter. For myself, I had to pinch myself to remind myself I was actually reading about a band I was interested in... Boring, boring, boring.
As for being a biography of Bono, I would call this a biography of U2 with the other members left out. I was glad to read about U2, but saw little personal insight into Bono's character. Well, certainly nothing new - maybe I've just read it all before.

1.0 out of 5 stars This isn't what it says it is! 27 Oct 2001
By A Customer
People had told me that this book wasn't very good but I thought I would find out for myself. And they were right! I wouldn't cal this a biography of bono - more a very long, very text-book biography of the band. There are some facts there but presented in a flat way, and also some glaring errors. There is very little insight, and I already knew all it told me - it's like Laura Jackson has just read the interviews and books I have and mixed it up into a boring book. I was surprised I could be bored by it, considering I usually lap up and books about bono and U2!

1.0 out of 5 stars Hardcore fans beware 7 April 2002
I was so excited about the publication of this book, since I'm a huge U2 fan and I idolize Bono.
Imagine my surprise (and disappointment) to discover that I knew far more about the man than written in the book. Coupled with the fact that some information is slightly inaccurate, this book is not worth the small amount of time it takes to get through it. There are few interesting anecdotes about Bono, and everything discussed is boringly factual. I don't want a sleazy "tell-all" book about the band, but a bit of insight about the frontman would have been nice.
Having said that, I know that there are a ton of fans out there who will buy it just because it's about Bono - just like me. But for anyone with only a passing interest in Bono, U2 or rock - stay away. And if you're a big fan, prepare to be disappointed. A far superior (and in-depth) read is "U2 At The End of the World" by Bill Flanagan.
