I have tons of cookbooks that fall into 2 main categories. Those favourites that I enjoy reading and referring to for cooking all the time, and those I only read, as a coffee-table or bedside table book only. Bonne Maman: The Seasonal Cookbook falls into the latter for me.

I'm sure I'll cook many of the 'sweet' recipes shown as I'm always baking, and will certainly use the many ideas for putting those many empty iconic Bonne Maman jars to good use (which to be honest is one of the things that made me want this as a reference book - more for the craft ideas!); however this isn't simply a baking book, there are many savory recipes too that use Bonne Maman products (handy if you happen to have them to hand, costly if you don't have the right gooseberry or fig preserve already in the cupboard...).

All in all, a beautiful flick-through book for those into crafts and baking, but certainly not an everyday cookbook that will stay on my kitchen countertop. For this reason, I think it would make a great gift for someone (as if you don't buy it, you won't have guilt about not cooking from it).

This is a super recipe book. Being a cookery demonstrator & Home Economist of very many years, I have a vast cookery book selection, literally in the thousands. This book has proved to be one that my hand has fallen upon many times already this year 2011, in its year of publication. Written by the brilliant Moyra Fraser (please Moyra write more cookery books in your own good name), is a guarantee that the recipes will work. Moyra's pedigree in the field is second to none *.

It is a beautiful book to look at too, with a smattering of ideas for using the iconic empty jars in novel ways. The seasons are covered with using produce in abundance for the appropriate time. Cleverly incorporating the excellent brand Bonne Maman preserves in most of the recipes & the biscuits & caramel in a few. All are novel in there amalgamation of the main flavours of the dish.

Here are a few of the recipes titles to whet your appetite:

Creamed tomato & orange soup with fresh crab croutes

Baked beetroot salad with feta & pine nuts

Crispy crumbed Romano peppers

White chocolate & raspberry tartlets (swoon - just look at the picture of these & your mouth will water)

Cappuccino caramel tart

Warm fig, blue cheese & hazelnut tart

Sizzling chilli & peach chicken

Summer greens with bitter orange butter dressing (this dressing is to die for)

Strawberry ripple ice cream

Apricot meringue roulade

Tropical fruits with chilli lime syrup

Berries & cherries syllabub

The above recipes are extracted from only a few given in only the Spring & Summer sections, I have not listed any from the Autumn & Winter chapters, although there are many more delicious recipes to be found in these sections, the review would go on forever if I were to do so.

This is a lovely book to give as a gift to an occasional cook but equally, would be appreciated by a serious cook too. Brilliant.

*I do not know Moyra Fraser personally, but I do feel she is a bit of an unsung hero; her recipes often appear in the top magazines, & in books such as this, where her name is not always obvious as the author of some really good recipes.

Having browsed through the book i find that i (being Scottish) have a connection with the French - sweet toothed!
The recipes are to die for and a great pick me up - especially at this time.
A great present for Valetine's day - the way to a man's heart is through his stomach ......they say!
The brand itself never fails to impress me - what will they think of next?

I have just got this book FREE from Bon Maman by collecting three codes from their jars. It arrived very quickly and is a lovely book, I particularly like the sweet recipes and can highly recommend the Apricot Meringue Roulade and French Macaroons with Salted Nut Caramel, I am no great cook but found them very easy to bake. The offer is still on (with free p&p too) as of 02/11/11.

I'm really enjoying this book - bought for a friend and never passed on!! The cheesecake recipe is the best evr - and my kids just love the strawberry ice cream. The moroccan style lamb casserele has been my favourite dish to do for the last three weekends of entertaining friends - so good.

This is an interesting mix of sweet and savoury recipes.. I have tried several and have enjoyed making them - and eating the results.
I have not tried them all yet, but I will eventually. There is nothing over complicated, but everything has really good depths of flavours

Not too sure at the moment with this book, if you can get hold of the jams, preserves etc easily then you will be fine and enjoy it but my shops don't stock 90% of the items. The craft tips are great I have done many of these.

Wonderful easy to understand recipes with inspirational ideas. I read other reviews, which encouraged me to purchase this book. I am so pleased that I did, it is a very welcome addition to my Cookery Book collection.
