I've read hundreds of travel and brit-abroad type books, and Bonne Chance is one of the easiest and most enjoyable to read. Written in an accesible and light style, the book draws you in to the story just like a novel. I enjoyed it and went to buy the follow up as soon as I had finished it.

There are possibly thousands of books of this type, each harking back to Peter Mayle and his Year in Provence in more recent times, but also to others much older, but Richard Wiles managed to write a non-carbon copy of Mr Mayle's superb book with its own style, wit, and appeal.

If you buy this book, and you should, also buy the follow up and read it immediately afterwards...but prepare yourself...all is not what it seems!

This is the welcome second book about the renovation project and relocation to the Haute Vienne, Limousin by Richard Wiles. Strongly recommend therefore that the first book Bonne Courage be read first! Read by both of us as a follow up to the first, once again very enjoyable, enthralling, fascinating, feeling his frustrations once again. For anyone, like us, who live in rural France, it is clear to understand the way of life here in unspoilt rural Limousin, with it's low population placed at 21st out of 22 departments of France. Quite lively during the summer months, quiet during spring and autumn and empty during the harsh winter months. We live very near to Richard and are undergoing our own renovation and restoration projects since relocating here permanently during 2008. We therefore know the downside and understand the difficulties of the region. We also are able to admire the beautiful countryside and be friends with fabulous people. For anyone who is thinking of taking the plunge then read both of Richard's books and familiarise yourself with the interesting characters who live here in a 'time warp', endearingly saying Bonne Courage and Bonne Chance as often as they say Bonjour! Recommended.........

Richard Wiles is a boring bugger who can't write for toffee. Just kidding! I loved 'Bon Courage' and am enjoying 'Bonne Chance' almost as much. Now living in the Limousin not far from Richard, my husband Simon and I have found his books an invaluable resource in getting properly orientated to our new environment. Having said that, I do feel that 'Bonne Chance' could have done with a bit more editing. The style is a bit clunky in places and are Colorado beetles really nine centimetres long? Hopefully glitches like these will be ironed out for future editions.
