I purchased this video for all my family - myself and my husband (both beginners at French), my two eldest sons - 10 and 11 years who are learning French at school, and my 27 month old son ... who is also just learning French (and English for that matter!)
My youngest son has managed to learn his colours in French in just two weeks, even though he is still not sure of them in English! He is also coming out with the odd phrase or two like 'Merci' and 'Bonjour'. He recognises and understands a lot more in French than he can speak at the moment, but we are very pleased with his progress.
My eldest two found the video quite amusing, but commented on the fact that they thought the animation could have been better, and it could have been a little more colourful. They have learnt a fair bit from the video though, so again we are pleased.
The only downside is that although the video says it is aimed at 4 to 6 years old, we think that it may have little to hold this age group's attention. The video is very repetitive in parts, and a child of this age group may just switch off. It is also, as my eldest two said, not very well animated and not very colourful.
Having said that, the subject matter is good, and we have all made progress, but I would say that unless you are very keen to learn French, this video would be a little tedious to watch, despite its content. Were the animation and the presentation worked on a little more, this would be a 5* video.

An excellent total immersion-style package for young children acquiring French as a second language.
The cat Moustache endears himself to the young child in a colourful and animated format, and guides the child via actions and words to a state of comprehension of the new language.
The age group at which this video is targeted is that at which absorbing language comes as second nature. The 'learning' process is more one of subconscious acquisition at this age, and the video encourages the young child to participate in the action by listening, absorbing and speaking aloud.
An extremely skillful method of combining fun with language to ensure that the child folows the same pattern in second language acquisition as he has already in his mother tongue.

I used this video as a child, and I believe I was bought the series for Christmas when I was 5. My sister (then 2) also used to watch the series.

I used it frequently and I remember loving it - for a previous review on this site to say that children of the target age group would find it repetitive and switch it off sounds like rubbish to me and suggests that the writer of that particular review doesn't have any experience with using the video with the target age group.

I remember liking the cartoons and the songs and at the age of 21 I'm pretty sure it put me on the road to my enthusiasm and passion for learning French. It's fantastic and they really should release it on DVD!

Someone said in a previous review that the animation in this video is not very good. Does that really matter??? This video teaches children French by getting them to repeat the words and, by doing this, they learn French in a fun way by singing songs - Frere Jacques and Sur le pont D'Avingon - and by introducing characters (my favourite is Moustache the cat) that will, as the video goes on, become familiar to the children.

I bought this video being a bit skeptical about whether it'll work as I watched this programme as a young child. I was relieved to see it work perfectly like new and entertain like it did when I was younger. Top banana!
