Francis (Michel Serrault) is stressed. He is struggling with a rebellious workforce at his factory and being hounded by Tax Inspectors. His snobby wife and daughter are extravagantly planning a society wedding with what little money he has left. Francis wants a way out.

Whilst watching a TV programme, he is shocked to see a woman with her two daughters give a passionate speech about her long lost husband who looks surprisingly just like him.

Francis puts himself forward as her husband and enters a new more relaxed lifestyle on a farm with his sexy new wife and daughters. He thinks his problems are over, but he soon realises the life he has stepped into isn't as perfect as he thought.

Featuring a critically acclaimed performance from Eric Cantona, this is a darkly funny story of a man in search of happiness.

Outstanding 2 Jun 2004
Format:DVD
I don't generally use the term 'gentle comedy', because I usually think it indicates a comedy that isn't trying hard enough. In this case though, the phrase fits and the film is wonderful beyond belief. Easily one of my favourite films, and the acting is superb throughout. I suppose it helps if one is a rabid Francophile, but I don't think that's essential in the viewer. All I'll say is, if you watch only one DVD this year, watch this one.

Ok, not all of them. Some of them are way too dark, too introspective, too slow... But this one is just perfect. It sorts of re-unites you with your life. Yes there are difficult frustrating times, yes there are times when you reaaaally want to be someone else, but all in all life is good. Worth living.

What makes this movie better than any US feel-good comedies is that you can relate to this character totally. A great watch.
