3.0 out of 5 stars Easy read with some nice tips, 18 Sep 2009
By R. Drury "Beckster" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I got this book because I'm excited about being pregnant & like the idea of bonding with my baby before it arrives.

The book is a nice length, & provides some good tips on pregnancy in general, aswell as giving nice ideas for how to bond with your bump, e.g. how to "play games" with your unborn baby aswell as the obvious such as talking to your bump.

I enjoyed reading it, but a lot of the information is included in other more general pregnancy books so wouldn't say its indispensible by any stretch, but would be a nice prezzy for an expectant mum.

1.0 out of 5 stars Coming down with a bump!, 20 Aug 2009
By Petra Fied (Stockport, Uk) - See all my reviews
I have read other Miriam Stoppard books about pregnancy that have been a great mix of medical and common sense advice. However, this book isn't one of them. It feels like the brief for this book would go something like this- "Miriam, please write a book that is for the mentally subnormal and we'll illustrate it with lots of happy cartoons so pregnant-idiot here can understand." Apart from the Janet and John writing style, it also has a stomach churning, sickly sweet cod-hippy-philosophy feel about it.
It says things like, "a man is not just a man, he is a partner, lover and father."
"Yes, and?"
"you are not just a woman, you are a partner and soon to be a mother."
"Yes I know, that's why I bought the book. Now what about bonding with my bump?"
"Get your partner to talk to your bump and tap your bump a bit."
Really? Is that IT?
Not really the advice I wanted. I thought it would tell me how to increase my child's intelligence, increase interaction and generally help me do what the title of the book said, but in truth, it was patronising rubbish.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just Right, 15 May 2009
I think this is a fab book. It is down to earth, well written and easy to read. It has a handy ref section at the back with contact details for lots of useful organisations. Miriam Stoppard will make you relaxed and confident about all aspects of pregnancy. I found this book a joy to read.
