4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a watch 7 Jan 2011
By JD
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
This film is definitely worth buying if you're interested in the Essex Boys/Range Rover murders. Great acting and some of the scenes with Pat Tate are hilarious. You learn a lot more about Michael Steele in this film and just how organised he was as an importer. There are 1 or 2 scenes more brutal than in Rise of the Footsoldier but the shootings at the end are not one of them, I didn't expect this anyway as Rise of shows you actual real footage close-ups of the bodies when they were being taken away.

I'm glad I bought this and will watch it many times again, but personally I think Rise of the Footsoldier is a better told story by Carlton Leach.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bleak Underworld Film 3 Jan 2011
Format:DVD
As a newbie to this story (not having seen the previous movies) was expecting something along the lines of Snatch or the excellent Dead Man Running. However, this is a fairly unrelenting and at times very dark and gritty tale. Follows the story of some real life criminal events from 15 years ago but the sequencing and chronology sometimes gets a bit muddled - it seems at times the director is trying to do Ritchie, but without the laughs. Well actually there are a few, mainly gallows humour and some of the sex scenes.

However essentially it is a tale of criminal wheeling and dealing, backstabbing and shifting allegiances (the suburban settings do make you wonder what might be going on in your own street). Even without knowing the story in advance, I can't say the final twists came as much of a surprise though it as at that stage the events gelled into place a bit better.

Picture quality average and the primarily techno soundtrack suits the era well, but don't waste money putting on the surround system.

Certainly worth a rental, as I did, but not one I would add to my permanent collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bloody Good Show 28 Sep 2010
Format:DVD
As someone whose taste in cinema does not usually run to much violence, choice language or blood (vampires excepted); I really enjoyed this film! No mere fest of foul language, tough guys, hot chicks, dangerous drugs, big guns, oh, and a Porche for good measure - although it's all there - "Bonded by Blood" has much more going for it. Cleverly directed by Sacha Bennett, this film has excellent touches of visual humour, some very funny lines, and a number of intense performances. There is even a Shakespeare reference - but don't let that put you off! Tamer Hassan as Pat Tate, high on cocaine and drunk on machismo is superbly scary. You have to duck when he starts pumping out the expletives. Altogether a much classier offering than previous efforts in this genre.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok but it doesn't come close to 'rise'. 26 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
The film isn't a carbon copy of 'essex boys' and the brilliant 'rise of the footsoldier' but tells more of the story through Darren Nicholls and how he's coping with watching over his shoulder every night and day under the witness protection programme and about his testimony of what happened. You also see a bit more of Mickey Steele and his motivation surrounding the events. I think where 'rise' goes into much, much more detail before and after events and as good character development this film firmly jumps into events before the shootings.

Terry Stone is good as Tucker and Tamer Hassen as Tate, both quite menacing characters. But where 'rise' showed the real brutality, and how these guys really were like, this film tends to show a more glamourous side to the story. Both different films which is good. But where 'rise' is in your face and gritty all the way through this film as breaks and as its funny moments. It really isn't a bad film as some people are making it out to be though, it just tells the story differently and gives us some more information the other films didn't have surrounding the murders, plus the acting is good throughtout most of the film. I'd definately recommend renting it if you've seen the other two films or if you like a good gangster flick....or wait until it comes down cheap! wrong thing it as on the case though...'brutal, even better than rise of the footsoldier' I'll tell you now, it doesn't even come close!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Brit-Crime Flick 6 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
Bonded By Blood stands out from the scores of Brit Crime films that have been released in recent years. This film is darker, more violent, more real than many titles in a similar vein. That said don't be dissuaded if violence is not your thing; this is an excellent film featuring a great cast of both usual suspects from Brit-Gangster films (Tamer Hassan) as well as some new upcoming talent (Adam Deacon.)
If you like films like Rise Of The Footsoldier, Layer Cake, Football Factory or The Firm, definitely check this film out. Perfect to watch with a few mates over some beers, and perhaps because it's based on a true story, it just feels much more realistic than, say, overly-slick Guy Ritchie films. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kept me to the end 21 Sep 2011
By Jay79
Format:DVD
I hadn't actually heard of this movie and stumbled upon it searching on here so had no expectations for it atall.
Have to say me and the wife both enjoyed it and it entertained until the end.
The language is terrible but it really doesn't bother us it's just reality.
The storyline is good, a slightly different take on the events leading up to the murders than ROTFS. We actually see the planning of the event which is cool.
The acting was mostly good all round, a couple of the female characters were slightly weak in moments but not bad.
It's very violent, gritty, moves along at fast pace and there are no boring slow bits which is a bonus.
I'd rate Rise of the Footsoldier as the best of the movies about the range rover murders with this a close second and essex boys 3rd as all the characters were entirely fictional.
A good solid effort all round.
