A jolly historical romp through Napoleon's wars in Germany, "Bonaparte's Avengers" is a fun, action novel, if not enormously challenging. It rolls along at a fair pace and keeps you turning pages.
If you enjoyed the "Sharpe" novels of Bernard Cornwell, you could enjoy this series too. Alain Lausard, the central character, is a French cavalryman whose home is the army, but his enemys are sometimes in French uniforms too. The characters are a little stereotyped but suit the story as it moves from fight to fliration and battle to bivowac.
The historical setting is convincing enough and the the detail will ring true with military buffs.
