Book Description

Thirty-something Geordie girl Aimee Anderson has just been dumped by her fiancé, Robbie – on the night of their engagement party. So, in an attempt to get over both the relationship, and the rather embarrassing way in which it ended, Aimee and her best friend Jemma are escaping the North East of England and going on the holiday of a lifetime which, in their case, is a trip around the Mediterranean on a mid-budget cruise liner. And there’s only one thing Aimee’s determined to do on this holiday, and that’s forget about Robbie and have some fun.

Danny Johnson is one-fifth of 90’s British boy band Bon Voyage, and they’re about to make a comeback. In the middle of the Mediterranean. On the same cruise as Aimee. And Aimee used to love Bon Voyage. Aimee used to love Danny Johnson…

Back in the day, Danny had been the band’s “bad boy”, and whilst the years haven’t damaged his looks in any way, his post-pop-star life is in a bit of a mess. About to be divorced from Newcastle party princess and Z-list celebrity wannabe, Davina Black, and harbouring a secret from the past about the real reason Bon Voyage split up, Danny just isn’t sure if being back in a boy band is what he really wants. But one thing he does want is some fun. For the next two weeks, at least.

So, when Aimee finally meets the man of her dreams – literally – could they possibly have some fun together? Or is something – or somebody – about to stand in the way of Aimee having a holiday to remember?

More 'Carry on Cruising' than a sophisticated trip on a luxury liner, Bon Voyage is a light-hearted rom com; a story of boy bands, broken dreams and, of course, a little bit of romance, out on the ocean wave…

Michelle Betham is also the author of the edgy and sexy rock 'n' roll romance 'See You At The Show', the light-hearted romantic comedies 'Too Much Trouble in Paradise' and 'Bon Voyage', the epic Hollywood romance ‘No Matter What’, and the follow-up 'Illusions of Love', sexy soccer romances 'Striker' and 'Extra Time', and 'The First Christmas Without You', a Christmas romance novella published through Harper Impulse.

Michelle Betham is an ex-media technician turned author of hot, edgy, gritty romance, usually involving rock stars, sports stars, and bikers. But not usually all in the same book. Yet. She is both self-published and published through HarperImpulse, a division of HarperCollins Publishers.

Addicted to binge-watching TV dramas she struggles to think of a life before Netflix, loves rock music, tattoos, spicy food, and Keanu Reeves - a crush that's lasted over twenty years, and one she blames entirely on 'Point Break'...

Her dream is to ride a Harley. And visit Las Vegas... And be able to eat any amount of chocolate without putting on weight...

She lives in County Durham, north-east England, with her husband and West Highland Terrier, where she can be found most days drinking tea and making up stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!!! 4 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read all Michelle's books....See You At the Show, Too Much Trouble in Paradise and No Matter What....all 5 star reads by the way.....but if I could rate Bon Voyage? well, it wouldn't be a 5......it would be a 10!!! There's romance, laughter and a roller coaster of "oooohhhh, what happens next"? Definite escapism, especially if you fantasize over boybands (hmmm Westlife, Boyzone and Take That spring to mind!!!)

I find it hard to get into Kindle books as I read it on laptop, so not easy to take to work, but finished this book in 3 days!! It even prevented me from starting work early!!! lol

Please go and buy/download this....you won't regret it and I won't have any problems reading this again......

xx

5.0 out of 5 stars Bon Voyage by Michelle Betham 4 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the exciting brand new novel from Michelle Betham.

Aimee Anderson and best friend Jemma are two normal girls from the north east of England. Who along with Aimee's mother, the larger than life Marcie, are about to spend two weeks on holiday together in the Mediterranean, on an all inclusive cruise.

Back in the 1990's Aimee and Jemma had been massive fans of the popular boy band Bon Voyage. The band had had huge success and like Aimee and Jemma are also from the north east of England. The band who had since split up and gone their own separate ways were also going to be on the cruise, taking part in a new reality TV show with cameras following them everywhere as they perform a series of reunion gigs on the cruise that will hopefully lead to them getting a second shot at fame.

The last thing on Aimee's mind is love, after just having a painful break up. But when she hears about the band being on the ship and Bon Voyage member Danny Johnson had always been her teenage crush and now she was about to see him in the flesh. With the band being out of the spotlight for a number of years and Danny himself now working as a painter and decorator will she have a chance with her teenage heartthrob?

Bon Voyage is an entertaining read, it is a story told with great humour that gives the reader a good giggle. I really enjoyed reading this book with its fantastic cast of characters. Some of the characters who will stop at nothing to grasp onto the fame machine. The conclusion to the story makes the story come together nicely and I would read another book with these characters in. Well done to Michelle Betham another brilliant story that makes daydreamers like me believe that anything can be possible.

I downloaded this free on Kindle and I'm pleased I didn't pay for it. I am normally happy to read books like this but it just wasn't believable and a lot of the descriptions were repetitive. I found it boring and, once I'd read half, skipped to the end to verify the predictable ending.

2 stars is quite a harsh marking, the book is readable, has a fully thought out story, a beginning, middle and end, and fairly realistic characterisation.

However I just didn't enjoy it at all, and I came very close to just deleting it by about 25% through, because the thought that I had to finish reading it was putting me off picking up the kindle. I did persevere and get to the end, but I wish I hadn't bothered.

To be fair I don't think it was all the fault of the writer. Sometimes you just dislike a subject too much, and the whole celebrity worship we see everywhere these days just leaves me cold, which is unfortunate as this is the whole basis of the book.

I wouldn't dissuade other people from reading it although it is predictable and quite long-winded, if you like the subject matter I'm sure you'll enjoy it...it just really wasn't for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fab holiday read 18 Jun. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
You can tell the author was a fan of a boyband back in the day by the way this book has been written. That's not a criticism; this tale is fun and frustrating at the same time. Sometimes I wanted to slap the two main characters in this book for not seeing what was staring them in the face!

I've never been on a cruise but having read this book I may well consider going on one in the future if characters like these are on board. I especially loved the middle aged couple with some fab Northern banter. The research for the cruise's stopoff destinations seemed very well researched too.

All in all, a nice little Summer tale for a miserable rainy day.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read! 7 May 2012
By Pauline
Format:Kindle Edition
You don't just escape with Bon Voyage, you sail on a beautful cruise ship, sip amazing cocktails, meander through ancient cities. You laugh a lot, share love and set backs, meet unforgetable people, but more importantly, you read a great book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best... 17 Nov. 2012

I actually found this book difficult to get along with. I did consider stopping after a couple of chapters, but I did persevere, only to find that it had the outcome I had expected.

To be honest, there is not a lot wrong with the story structure or even the 'girl gets together with her former boy band hero' theme, but I found the characters to be under-developed (even the main character Aimee) and the story to be predictable. There was nothing in the story to surprise me or to get my brain thinking.

This was a freebie when I ordered this, and I am glad I did not part with any money for it. I've seen some reviews suggesting it is a summer read. I may have got through it quicker whilst on my holidays, but I still would have felt the same about the predictable ending and the characters regardless.
