Bon Jovi's debut album is one of those eighties rock albums that can be repeated and repeated without ever tiring out.
The self entitled debut was released in 1983, it contains the great melodic tracks 'Runaway' and 'She Don't Know Me', the band's first hit singles. The whole album is good fun, 'She Don't Know Me' is an excellent song with lyrics that every guy can relate to, and 'Breakout' is a typical Bon Jovi song, immediately catchy and a good melody.
The lyrics are sometimes immature and perhaps needed a little more work, but they reflect the band's youthfulness (both in their ages and their early days as a group) at the time. No one in Bon Jovi rates their debut or it's follow-up very highly I know, but they were very good (if less commercial than their later works) and are certainly better than the recent 'What About Now'.
Bon Jovi produced excellent rock music in their day, and their debut is an excellent example of how good they were, and still can be, if they decide to go back to the music that there original target audience enjoyed so much.
'Bon Jovi' is great fun, a solid debut, and one that you can't miss.
