5.0 out of 5 stars invaluable guide to eating in a French restaurant, 12 Nov 2007
By Jane Goddard (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
We have had this book for 20 years or so, and cannot recommend it highly enough. I am very diappointed to see that it is not available at the moment because my adult daughter remembers it from her childhood and would like to have her own copy. I am going to have to lend her ours. What if she loses it! You can look up all manner of words which go beyond our school French lessons. A small example: lapin/rabbit - yes I know, easy, but look at these variations: lapin de clapier/domestic rabbit; laperau/young wild rabbit; lapin de garenne/wild rabbit. How would you have known that if you saw it on the menu?

3.0 out of 5 stars Knowledge in one's pocket, 4 Jun 2009
A handy little guide that is small enough to carry with you into a restaurant. Great for first timers or those that live in France and want to know more and ensure they order the right thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bon Appetit, 21 Sep 2009
By The Kerryman (Co Cork Ireland) - See all my reviews
Bought this book prior to recent holiday in France.
Found it very good when trying to translate menus into English.
It seems to be well researched and we found very few items on menus that were not referred to in the book.
