There are several books out there about Bollywood, but some, like Vijay Mishra's " Bollywood Temple of Desire" better suited for academia than the general public. In contrast, Ms. Kabir's book is accessible to someone looking for an introduction to the world of Bollywood films. It lays out the basic components of the Hindi commercial film industry, helping you understand what Indian movie goers look for when they plunk down their hard earned rupees. The style is light, but not superficial. Snippets from well-known Bollywood players add to the fun. I can't think of a better book to start with. Later, you might want to seek out Yves Thoraval's "The Cinemas of India," which gives a more in-depth look at all of India's movie centers (there's more to Indian movies than Bollywood).
