This is a delightful album of some of the best Irish concertina playing that I have heard in a long while. It is all at an appropriate pace - no rushing at all - which allows you to enjoy the melodies and the intricacies of the tunes and the playing. The use of a baritone concertina adds an extra dimension especially on the opening track, Joe Bane's and Gypsy Princess - a terrific pair of tunes. I wholeheartedly recommend this album.

What an absolute joy. The only mild adulteration is the natural reverb of a church, and that is no real imposition. These two lads do the music and the concertina proud. If you're sold on slick big band sounds this won't satisfy such needs. However, if you were to set aside such expectations and just give your ears over - I can't imagine your appreciation not growing, even though this is completely SANS accompaniment. You heard me correct - NO drums of any kind, NO keyboards, piano or synth - NOT acoustic - electric or otherwise, and NO strummin' of any sort - NO guitars or any of its relatives. This is just the two tina squeezers and their varied free reed instruments of many keys.

Paraphrasing in agreed praise what one well experienced soul and friend and uilleann piper said ~ "This ain't typewriter music!" This is squeezin' from the heart, their own two hearts and the heart or Irish traditional music. This is truly beautiful and inspirational music, the kind of tonic I will gladly take over and over again whenever the stresses and pressures of life drag me down. And too, whenever the slick flash OTT tosh some folks file under 'trad' imposes itself on my ears, whenever such things start to make me wince enough that a headache starts to grow - instead of aspirin it will be recordings like this that will save me and wash away the crud...

This recording causes two acts of involuntary response ~ a smile and my feet tapping. It is on the shelf with other joyous listens, and in that category of squeeze & reeds it shares space with recordings of the lovely squeezing of other anglo concertina folks we appreciate - Bernard O'Sullivan, Tommy McMahon, Kitty Hayes, Elizabeth Crotty, Chris Droney, Paddy Murphy, Terry Bingham, Mary MacNamara, etc.

Bought this cd for my grand daughter who is a concertina player and she was delighted with it . In fact she listens to it all the time and has learnt some of the tunes off.
