The book shows that whatever you want to do in life, you should have a go! The experiences he had in getting things set up with family and friends, to enable him to take on this adventure, of rowing solo, across the pacific are an inspiration to all who have ever dreamed of attempting something. The actual adventure is gripping, he made friends with fishes, experienced lonliness but also found how beautiful it was out there alone in the pacific. Many saw the television pictures of him walking through the waves on to the shore of Australia, into the arms of his daughters, now is the time to read about how he got there.

This is essentailly about a man with a huge ego wishing to have his name in the record books and his legacy to the sea is all the rubbish he threw over the side of his boat. As he says himself he didn't row the Pacific, he drifted the Pacific.

He was no doubt bold but read Tim Severin's The Brendan Voyage if you want a story that is 100 times more brave and interesting in an age without GPS, EPIRB and satelite phones The Brendan Voyage: The Seafaring Classic That Followed St. Brendan to America
