Spearhead of the US 8th Air Forces daylight bomber offensive over Germany and north-west Europe in the Second World War, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress has become one of the most famous and best-known bomber aircraft of all time. 5.0 out of 5 stars A different book 26 Mar 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
With so many published books and articles on the B-17 , it is easy to overlook a new one. However I think this one is different as it explains and shows very well all the details of the aircraft in a way I do not remember having seen (unless you have a T.O.). On the other hand it mixes this type of information with fascinating details of the receonstruction type of work.
All in all a very interesting book for those with a penchant for the mechanical things.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different perspective 7 Jun 2011
Format:Hardcover
Have had this book for a couple of days now and have found it absolutely fascinating.
Very easy to read and follow, with a great selection of photographs that I have not seen before,
many by the author documenting the restoration work. This is my third Haynes manual and I must applaud this growing series of books.
What a shame it was left to the French 'Pink Lady' crew and owners to help out with the making of this book when we have a flying B-17 in the UK.
Otherwise, a very welcome addition to the Haynes series.

This book is a very interesting look at this aircraft the detail is out of this world, when you look at this aircraft in detail you wonder at all the vast detail that goes into making an aircraft like this a very interesting book pity I can't afford a B17

Great stuff, and not necessarily for those solely interested in the nuts and bolts of this iconic aircraft.
